I've heard he's writing the Beatles episode and it's going to be about the 'Paul is dead' conspiracy, and McCartney is going to get trapped in another dimension and be replaced with a Zygon duplicate, however the portal reopens years later during the filming of Pirates of the Caribbean 5 and the 2 Pauls reswap places but Zygon Paul sucks Johnny Depp into this other dimension with him and now Johnny Depp has been replaced with a cactus duplicate (like in Meglos). And the episode ends with Johnny Depp making love to the Zygon on a different planet, but watching on from the shadows is Kel the council worker from the 2006 episode Fear Her. Oh and Danny Devito guest stars as modern day McCartney and archive voice recordings of Barbara Castle are used through out as a supercomputer called Glhobile

You should have written for the show in the Chibnall years. Those suggestions aren't any worse than some of his were.

So all the episode titles have been announced and here are my predictions on what each of them will be about

 

Space Babies - It's just an episode of the Rugrats set in space and The Doctor locks all of the infants in an escape pod and shoots it into the sun.

The Devil's Chord - This episode focus's on a small American town run by evangelicals who think that rap music is making their kids become liberals, Paul McCartney is there too.

Boom - Andrew Garfield returns as Frank from the series 3 Dalek episodes and becomes an aspiring composer in New York City who is worried he made the wrong career choice, whilst navigating the pressures of love and friendship, Annette Badland also returns as Margaret Blaine (Blon fel fotch).

73 Yards - It's just the plot of Edgar Wright's 'The Worlds End' but the aliens are Zygons and every actor from that film who was also in Doctor Who reprises their Whoniverse roles, ie Simon Pegg returns as the Editor from series 1.

Dot and Bubble - An AI recreation of June Brown is playing the Rani who has disguised herself as an actor and joins the cast of BBC's Eastenders in 1985 and changes history by adopting a dog called Bubble.

Rogue - The Doctor and Ruby get sucked into the 90s X-Men cartoon and fight Magneto with the character Rogue

The Legend of Ruby Sunday - A sequel to The Legend of the Sea Devils where Ruby is revealed to have a Sea Devil the whole time, John Bishop is there too.

Empire of Death - It's just a 60 minute documentary on the bad bits of the Byzantine empire, narrated by Sir David Attenborough.

Looks epic, but I was hoping for maybe at least a cameo from Mrs Flood in that trailer. If it wasn't for those rights issues with the BBC I'd be seventy to eighty percent sure that she was the Rani.

Considering I saw set pictures of S2 before Millie news of Ruby/Millie filming. I was slightly confused by all the drama.

I kind of assumed from the initial rumours that Millie was being demoted to a kind of 'secondary companion' status for Season 2, similar to Martha Jones' role in Series 4 (god, this numbering scheme is a mess) and that her main story arc would be pretty much wrapped up in her first season. 

 

BTW: I'll also assume from now on we're using 'series' for pre-Ncuti New Who seasons and 'season' for post-Ncuti/Disney+ seasons.

I still am using series for new who (including Disney) and season for old who just because it's too complicated for my brain to figure out. It's not like American TV shows don't have long running shows that go on past 20 seasons (Days of Our Lives is on like season 59).

Sadly I'm going to be working through the live broadcast slot. I'm hoping to watch the first one either at midnight or in the morning (depends how tired I am in a couple of hours) then the second I'll try to slot into my lunch hour, if not I want be watching until post-broadcast, which is annoying. As much as my gut instinct was against the midnight release for many reasons now I've had more time to get used to the idea I think it's quite good and has allowed me to schedule watching around what I'm doing, so I take back a lot of what I said before.

I was in Ethiopia when The Timeless Child episode was broadcast and I wasn't able to watch it for over a week. There was nothing online which was a coherent critique of what was actually on screen. Those that praised it just gushed with little supporting evidence and those that hated it did so with very little coherence. I might watch Space Babies tomorrow morning or I might do a double bill on Sunday.

My review in spoilers for those who don't want to know. I watched both episodes at midnight.

Space Babies - 6/10 but may increase

 

Honestly kinda weird and funky and i'm still not sure what to make of the episode. Literal babies "running" a space ship. I think I need to give it a rewatch to give my full opinion. As the episode progressed it got better and i'm really interested in what is to come based on the hints such as that weird snow.

 

The Devil's Chord - 9/10

 

Loved this episode and gives lots of hints of what may come (Susan for instance), or they could even be throwaway comments for the fandom because RTD just be like that. The Rani mention for instance (this could have been in the previous episode not sure). I understand that even with Disney money they would not have been able to afford rights to have Beatles songs play. I like how they worked around it, although the actors playing Lennon and McCartney could have been casted better.

 

The fact that Maestro is the child of The Toymaker gives them that extra crazy, because we don't know what bullshit The Toymaker put them through. Also who is that child who appeared at the start and the end? Jinkx Monsoon did a great job and I was convinced by their performance.

 

I really would like The Doctor to stick to one outfit look though because it's what makes The Doctor...The Doctor. He/she/they are known to wear one or two suits despite having biggest wardrobe in the galaxy, it's also easy for fans when going to conventions etc.

Just finished The Devil's Chord having watched Space Babies at midnight, a few thoughts below.

Space Babies was fun but not the best, full of potty humour that didn't land for me and I found the GCI on the babies off-putting, it certainly got better as it went on but that first scene with all of the babies was probably the low point for me. Would have worked better as a Big Finish audio drama.

 

Devil's Chord was fantastic if not a bit confusing at points, I'm always a sucker for a big bombastic musical number so that was great. Jinkx gave a fantastic performance and was incredibly fun. I liked how the Beatles were used more as set decoration than being the central focus, but were still key to the plot (well half of them were). The only major criticism I have is that I'm not sure I like how broken the fourth wall has become over the past few episodes.

 

Series arch wise, I'm very interested (and confused) in what is going on with Ruby and the snow and carol of the bells and all that stuff. Mrs Merridew wise I think the cameo in episode 1 was on the tablet with the crew testimonials and in episode 2 she was the tea lady in the canteen. 

 

References aside from the Rani and Susan, I noticed music of the spheres which is both a general music term and a 2008 minisode with Tennant fighting a Graske.

I've watched both the new episodes, but not necessarily in the right order (switched TV on, episode in progress so pressed the green button to watch from the beginning and didn't realise it was the second episode until I finished and looked for the other one on iPlayer). Still, its time travel innit?

 

The Devil's Chord - generally good but what's with the 'High School Musical'-tribute? I did enjoy the music otherwise, even Ruby's torch song for lovelorn lesbians grew on me.

Space Babies - Mostly fun, though I must be getting old as fart jokes and bogey jokes no longer amuse me.

I relaly enjoyed Space Babies. It felt like the Doctor Who I feel in love with as a kid. Am watching the Devil’s Chord tonight.
