At least I picked Lloyd on here even though I missed him as a unique on the DDP for my theme team.

Rochdale is a safe labour seat, winning 51% in 2019.

George Galloway is running in Rochdale which is going to mean it’s a very toxic by - election.

He didn’t do that badly in Batley and Spen in 2021. He won’t win but his campaign will be full of anti semitism and lots of personal attacks.

Lost comfortably when Starmer was at his weakest. And no one remembers it now. His days as narrative shifter are long gone.

True but the Isreal/Gaza conflict will mean Galloway’s core community are likely to be very unhappy with Starmer at the moment.

Kwarteng's the latest to announce he's gone at the next election. Clearly no by-election but this does smack of their private polling being absolutely dire and the suggestion that once safe seats will topple. Quite a few now optiing to avoid a Portillo moment. In other news the monarchy likely did Liz Truss a favour, gifting her a few days to look prime ministerial around the death of the Queen. So, it's sort of balanced out today with PopCon (Popular Conservatism) having a press launch and josting for media attention with the wave of concern for the King's health.

Oh aye, Kwarteng: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-surrey-68214536

The front row of Popular Conservatives in full - add your own captions before the front page of Private Eye gets in there

And the report with the ironic twist that Truss, who was the marquee turn at this gig, remains one of the least popular politicians in the country according to pollsters: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-68218299

Pretty certain this all belongs in the political rants thread. Nothing to do with by-elections.

Really relieved for him. One of the nicest people in politics victim to the fantasist tales of a psychopath. There was serious concern in Westminster that Rosindell could have taken his own life. It destroyed his mental health.

Surprisingly relatively little support from his colleagues on social media now he has been cleared compared to some other cases where an MP has been cleared and gotten a lot of public support.

Innocence isn’t measured by social media retweets or likes. Please, just stop making inane comments if you have nothing worthwhile saying. Why do you sit on here all day; don’t you have school or uni or something?

Just checking out the other possibles now Labour have massively shat their own pants - Ravin Rodent Subortna is your Monster Raving Looney candidate up there. Makes you wonder. If George Galloway beats a self-declared looney is there any point in satire?

From the party's website:

As an MP he would campaign for the introduction of a 99p coin to save on change

He said he would call for all roundabouts to have fairground carousels in the middle to tell cars where to go and prevent road rage.

Among his other policies is a plan for all new-build housing to have hedgehog homes included to help eradicate homelessness for hedgehogs, and making sure hedgehogs had lollipop signs to help them cross the road.

Ravin says he is aiming to win “zero votes” because “that would be fair to give everybody else a chance”.

If the general election is in May then there won't be a by-election. If however the GE is not till the autumn then there will be.
