Death Impends 7,964 Posted January 20, 2020 And that shuts the door on Inverse 2020 entries. Good luck to everyone and their picks. Stats now being tabulated... 1
Death Impends 7,964 Posted January 20, 2020 STATS AND FACTS The Inverse Dead Pool has dropped in participants compared to last year, with 36 players total (12 less than 2019 and identical to 2018). Donald Trump has usually been the top dog in the Inverse but he wasn't popular enough in the DDP this year to be Inverse eligible (the DDP - the one place where you wish Trump had popularity...). With Trump out, Gazza now sits atop the perch. There is also an unanimous pick this time around - every single team has at least some modicum of confidence in Angela Lansbury's ability to see the year out. Name Total Points Total # of Teams 1. Jill Gascoine 188 19 Last year's people's choice would have finished in 10th place with 38 points, with Doris Day, Marieke Vervoort, and Valerie Harper the trio of landmines. Which of the above will follow in their paths? Conversely, the community regards these ten as the most fecked: Name Total Points Total # of Teams 1. Tom Smith 7 1 2. Genesis P-Orridge 12 1 3. Yoo Sang-Chul 13 2 4. Sir Creep will GLADLY take on 4 of those 13 points. Are you people mad? A world class athlete in his 60s gets diagnosed in November and you don't think he will last 14 months? How many 80 year olds politicians with Panc C are we dealing since 2019 with who have shot past that mark? Hell, didn't we do this with your girlfriend Ruth Ginsberg last year - I put her #1 to prove a point? We did, and I kept my garage full of 5-lb coffee cans. That's it, YOO are all subject to my 5 pounds of coffee challenge for 2020. No way in hell (read: South Korea) is he dying this year. 2021 sure. Put a 'like' and if he dies and you liked this post I'll ship it to the address of your choosing (or donate to foodbank). I owe a photo to YWillz and I will honour that when I get home in a week (or maybe search out a food bank in Carlsbad NM this week). SirC

The average survival for a 40 something DDP pick averages out at 9.5 months. This can extend to 18+ months, but the mean is within the year. Interesting those averages go up per decade until 70+, although the 60 year olds are boosted by Simon Hoggart and Johnny Clegg, two very long term cases. 3. The two biggest stats for me personally is I am 10 out of 12 in pancreatic cancer DDP picks being successful, and 0 out of 14 in shortlisted but not picked pancreatic cancer names surviving the year not picked. To the point one of my rules of deadpooling is "dont ignore pancreatic cancer, you idiot". After all, if I'd picked 3 of them I shortlisted but ignored in 2016, I'd have won the DDP! There's even a post somewhere on here from 2016 where I note those 3 misses and go "yeah but it's not going to cost me, I suck at the DDP!" only for the rest of my team to have a word and dropped dead! You *may* be right but the stats game point out to the risk.
paddyfool 379 Posted January 20, 2020 Sir Creep, The probability of surviving pancreatic cancer at one year from diagnosis is about 20%. https://www.cancerresearchuk.org/about-cancer/pancreatic-cancer/survival Being young doesn't really help the chances, since younger people tend to have more aggressive cancers. Being physically fit does help the chances, but probably not enough. EDIT: In short, I accept your challenge. (I choose the foodbank option, btw).

I admire your optimism but I think 17 points is more than Drol finished with at the end of 2019 However a number of players have commented how difficult it was to take decisions once the first few names are down
machotrouts 828 Posted January 23, 2020 17 points was exactly my winning score in 2018. I'm not aware of anyone ever having won with a score of 0. Extrapolating from past trends, Great Uncle Bulgaria must be the most likely winner at this point. 2
