Dying Off The Radar

Recommended Posts

Any information on Canadian actor Robert G. Slade's age and general status? He has most famously starred in films like Casino Royale and Exit Thread. Robert appears to be active to this very day according to IMDB https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0805195. However IMDB shows he starred in 3 films in the 60's which is incorrect because Slade has been active for 35 years.  As his Exit Thread character Ezekiel Hartt (which he played in 2016), Slade looks to be in his mid to late 60s http://www.exitthread.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/rs4-1024x681.jpg but he could very well be older (Remember the age and birthdate confusion of Michael Angelis?).  Slade appears to be an extremely private guy, with no information about him anywhere besides his characters and films he starred in and seems like one of those guys who will very likely die off radar.

James Horshock and Donald Johnson, the press secretary and treasurer, respectively, to Budd Dwyer, both died off-the-radar in the past 24 months. They were flanking him at his pre-suicide rambling speech.

Did Berniece Baker Miracle (wiki), Marilyn Monroe's half-sister die off radar?

Yes, in 2014 (aged 94–95). Photo there of her grave "Berniece Miracle" with her husband's (Paris Miracle). Other sites online mention her husband by name and its an exact match. Residency sites like Spokeo and Clustrmaps also have no record of her residence beyond the mid-2010s, where she was last recording as living in North Carolina (which neighbours Kentucky) so that too would back up the FindAGrave page, even though the picture itself is strong enough evidence in itself IMO.

Oh dear. Just shows why you shouldn't trust clickbait "news" sites like this, which claim she's still alive without first hand confirmation.

Bad news for @John Key who has her in the Centenarian Deadpool this year, and to anyone who may have picked her on the DDP.

Entrepreneur Kate Craig-Wood died aged 43 in September 2020 but her death went unnoticed until 2021. She was interviewed by a number of British newspapers 10-15 years ago when language used to describe transgender women was very different to nowadays. It seems she stepped back from her company Memset and sold it at the start of the pandemic, under the name Kate Helen Bishopwood.

You'd think there would be a blog post or a DL Cup-level obit but there's nothing out there, aside from someone on Twitter who wants to know her cause of death. She is definitely dead though, as her estate has been claimed and her house sold for £1m last year.

Alan Jeapes, who designed among other things the Eastenders logo, the 80s BBC 2 ident and the old BBC news clock, died in 2010 according to both IMDB and this guy's family history page. You would have thought someone who has a back catalog that gets him a permanent display at a British university would have qualified for a QO somewhere, but I can't see one.

I don't remember this one getting any press. Donald Ross, a Hollywood writer for shows like Diff'rent Strokes, Hart to Hart, the Love Boat & Murder She Wrote and the husband of Match Game semi-regular panelist Patti Deutsch for 49 years, died of cancer in June 2018. Ross, who made a handful of appearances on Match Game, was occasionally referred to by his wisecracking wife as 'Fast Donald' when she was providing answers. Deutsch died in July 2017 of complications from cancer.

According to some posts, Italian actress Gloria Milland (Wiki) is dead, true or not?

Known for her performance in peplum and spaghetti films she debuted in 1959 with her real name as Maria Fie, but changed it shortly later, following a fashion of the time for American-sounding stage names.

It is believed that she may died in 1993 at 53.

I know blogs are not reliable. Also mentioned as dead in Thrilling Forum. com

undefined    Gloria Milland | Living or Dead?

Don't know what to suggest. Write to the Italian government and tell them to publish their death records online? It would instantly clear up about 300+ Wikipedia biographies of Italian subjects who are in a state of limbo.

Rudy Challenger, an actor known for his roles in blaxploitation movies and bit parts on sitcoms, looks to have died without much fanfare in 2012. His granddaughter tweeted about it last year, and he made it onto the Tonys In Memoriam list, but other than that, nothing. No mention on his IMDb or Wikipedia page (though I've submitted an update to the former based on public records).

Has two mentions on this site, one of which was a pool selection this year.

Where did you find the public record for this? Can't see anything on Ancestry.

Most of the aggregates out there didn't notice his death, but MyLife did:

"Rudy M Challenger, 83

Born: 10/02/1928

Passed: 08/22/2012

Van Nuys, CA"

"Passed"  :facepalm:

Why are so many people afraid of saying "Died" ?

It's pathetic.

Not completely off the radar, but I've only just discovered that the sumo wrestler Ulambayaryn Byambajav, aka Byamba, died in February 2020. He was the go-to sumo guy for American TV and film for the past decade, he was in Oceans 13, a One Direction music video and, perhaps most notably, a couple of guest spots on Impractical Jokers. And yet despite dying in Los Angeles, no coverage of his death in the west, seemingly, until a passing reference in a Sports Illustrated piece about another sumo guy two years later. Wonder if the date of his death hamstrung him because we were all looking at COVID and nothing else?

Ah, so a place to reference the fact that actor John Carlisle of Omega Factor fame (and one of those "Oh that guy" faces from the 1970s) died in 2011 so far off the radar the only reference was the Equity magazine in late 2014!

itv-sunday-night-drama-time-lock-tv-prog

As you can see from his imdb, he managed to die completely off the radar despite the fact he was still acting at the time!

Yes I'm bumping this two years too late, but by christ, if you could choose only one face to sum up the 1970s then this is the one.

Time to stick a fork in this oft-mentioned character on here.

Ronald Pellar (wiki), the stage hypnotist and con man who was the final husband of Lana Turner, died on June 1, 2013, at the age of 83.

Got a brief mention in "The Paper" (creative name) under one of his many pseudonyms.

Tom Cushman was one of many known as the "Fourth Beastie Boy" - he has a writing credit on "Fight for Your Right to Party" and is namechecked in "Hey Ladies" ("Tom Thumb, Tom Cushman, or Tom Foolery"). He was later arrested for selling Philip Seymour Hoffman the drugs that killed him. His Discogs profile says he died in 2018, and that seems to be backed up by a tweet here. Can't find any obituary though, which is odd - you'd have thought he'd have at least qualified for some sort of Brooklyn music blog-level coverage. Discogs claims his real name was Steven Cushing Thomas, and that name is associated with a British library music company called High Left. Their Company House page says that Steven Cushing Thomas, of Seattle, Washington ceased a stake in the company in mid-2018, but then retook one a day later. So I don't know. Probably dead.
Edit: Died early June 2018 according to this Facebook post, with a memorial taking place on December 22 of that year at St. Ann's Church in Brooklyn Heights, if anyone fancies searching for a reference.
