Dying Off The Radar

As noted in the Doctor Who thread, a recent one was Philip Latham who's death was announced by his family in the Telegraph announcements. A regular face in British film and TV between the 50s and 80s, sometimes as a lead - Danger Man, The Saint, The Avengers, Dracula Prince of Darkness, The Pallisers, The Cedar Tree, The Professionals, Lord President Borusa in The Five Doctors. He didn't get a single obit AFAIK. Toby Hadoke didn't even do a tweet for him.

Worth noting that while we await Philip Latham's obit - ha! It's what the Guardian's Other Lives is for if you can't fit it in amongst all the Glee also rans.

So as I was saying Linda Cristal wasn't in a damn thing film or TV wise since 1988 - a year before Philip Latham retired - and in nothing the UK would have been watching since the early 1980s. Yet old Linda gets Obits everywhere - latest is the Guardian today.

If Philip Latham gets an obit. I am going to be even madder about David Fisher not getting one

What's the betting that, despite having died 7 and a half months ago, Paula Tilbrook still gets an obit?

3 DDP teams are going to be immensely annoyed.

100% she gets one.

Probably a warning to never pick Eillen Derbyshire for the list as she will likely be a months later announcement.

Mirror has it as does the Daily Mail to name just two.

Which reminds me - Susan Hampshire (Pallisers co-star) is still alive (aged 83) she packed up acting 11 years ago to care for her husband Sir Eddie Kulukundis who has dementia and diabetes. Sir Eddie may well get written up as and when because his philanthropy with regard to funding British athletes means he's got a fair chance of getting a mention in the sports pages.

A suggestion was made at the beginning of this year in the Ideas and Possibilities for 2021 thread of Japanese economist Hiromitsu Ishi, diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in 2016. Although it's not much evidence, this link would seem to indicate he actually died in 2018.

She is close friends with Bill Roache who has a habit  of not revealing personal details about other people.

Lord President Borusa in The Five Doctors.

He was still alive? No offense to him, but he looked about 65 when playing Borusa!

Plus her son is a Journalist even if he himself didn’t reveal it if one of his Journalist colleagues found out one of them would surely spill the beans.

I know! I was always shocked he was still with us. Would’ve loved someone like Toby Hadoke to have interviewed him but it never happened.

First person to call out Morrissey for being a racist in a major publication. Wasn't he some sort of minor Nigerian royal who was slumming it in England?

Former NME writer Dele Fadele died back in 2018, but it only came to light last night:

Often to be spotted slumped at the back of the venue in shabby coat with notebook and carrier bag full of Kestrel Black or 8 Ace or something similarly hardcore.

John Riker, who appeared in the wrestling organization WCW as the comically fat character Ralphus in the late 1990s, died off the radar last year. Chris Jericho delivered the news on the most recent edition of the Saturday Night Special podcast, noting he'd recently found out about Riker's passing.

Tina Kanarek, who lipsynched Jack White's uncredited vocals in the video for "Danger! High Voltage" by Electric Six, a 2002 #2 single, died in 2006 completely off the radar.

Wiki says that she was 70 at the time of the photo shoot. Really? Didn’t have her down as that old.

That means she would’ve been 73-74 at the time of her death.

Bloody hallelujah. All of my suggestions at Cmme level so far to fix these sort of holes don't work as he hadn't got a passing mention ANYWHERE till now.

Heh, well, he must have been in the deepest end of the backlog. But thankfully, we've had some very quiet weeks.

Yes, I'll update tonight. We've got a bunch of names now.
