Prostate cancer is a weird one though, it may well get you in the end but people can often live for years without it being an issue. Hopefully this is just a minor, temporary blip for Andy and nothing more. Simon's quote is a bit tactless, however. I hope it wasn't meant to be - it sounds like him and the rest of the band didn't know about Andy's illness, or at least that it was Stage 4 and that it was just something said in shock and surprise.
