Updated for the death of Bern Elliott. Quite surprised he has died off radar. Hopefully a Guardian obit will turn up eventually for him.

Surprised myself - nowt showing online that remotely approaches q/o standards. Pressure of too many deaths (mainly the late onslaught of Nik Turner and Wilcko Johnson) has bumped him from our List of the Lost radio show at the start of the year too. For all the fans of Erith's king of surf and beat here's a melodic and effective take  on a standard, also his band's biggest UK hit:

I have an email confirmation from his son, if it would help anyone.  Local press has been informed.

The oldest living person to have appeared on a hit on the UK Singles Chart is now Gaston Bogaert of The Chakachas (b. 1921), followed by Ray Anthony (b. 1922).

Gaston Bogaerts died back in November of this year. 9 November, to be precise.

Edit: Apologies, it's (probably) 9 December. That article mentions he died 'Friday' but 9 November was on a Wednesday and other sources do mention he died in December.

NB: Seems to be only one lineup listed online for this band – the same one I used for their 60s hit. No guarantee it's accurate.

Updated for the death of Bogaerts. It's frustrating that I can't seem to trace the other members considering this group's prominence once upon a time. Can't even find what happened to Kenton, and she was married to Tito Puente!

With the death of Bogaerts, Ray Anthony, 100, is now the oldest living person to have appeared in the UK Singles Chart.

Thanks Joey!

Confirmed by his brother Verdine White on Facebook.

I'll wait to get confirmation on a date of death before I update, but looks like he was a 31/12/22 death.

Don't know if it counts, but Tommy Chong (between 1960-1970 Sneed's then-brother-in-law) confirmed it on his Twitter.

We already have an obit so it's confirmed.

According to the obit, he turned 80 last November, but Tommy Chong's tweet says he was "about to turn 80" so not sure who to believe – obscure media or a massive stoner? Hmmm
