Cross posting here. Was diagnosed at 60. Was a centre back which is one of the most at risk positions for heading related dementia along with centre forward.

At nearly 92, that’s not really surprising.

Only 9% feels a lot lower than what we seeing . Presumably the less intense Swedish League reduces the increased risk.

No it doesn't? There's about 50-100 cases a year out of something in the line of 10, 000+ living ex pros (which is a very low estimate) in the UK. 9% of them would be in the region of over a thousand cases, possibly even 2 or 3.

Which makes it even smaller a percentage over all of footballers. Its bad enough without disasterising it.

Risk is higher for outfield players than goalkeepers. Well no fucking shit given how rarely keepers head the ball

Aye, but how often do outfield players collide with the shins of incoming strikers? When goalies get concussion they don't do it by halves.

More a question for anyone attracted to men - does Neil "Razor" Ruddock have a point or should we start worrying about the state of his reasoning and add him to this thread?

I don't think this is too much of a mystery. Losing the 7st probably just allowed the ladies in question to rationalise potentially getting their hands on some of his cash/celeb status. They do have some standards you know.

I think this is known as The Crouch Law

Thanks to the final stretch of the Windy City pool, here's a Gordon McQueen update:

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-11911157/Hayley-McQueen-speaks-father-Gordons-dementia-battle-deserted-PFA.html

When they announced his dementia with the "cannot eat" bit late 2021, he was actually receiving home hospice care, but he somehow got better and is back to eating solid food again. Still bedridden most of the time.

Sounds like the hospice was in November 2022 and that he isn`t eating solids but can tolerate pureed food now.

Yes, I was unsure which year they meant, but I assumed that they refered to the initial news. Could be wrong, but it's probably not that much of a difference.

Trevor Whymark, former long-serving Ipswich Town player with one cap for England was diagnosed with dementia in 2019, but it's only been revealed today - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-suffolk-65336965

I can see the FA trying to ban heading but I can’t see FIFA approving it anytime soon - they won’t even permit temporary concussion substitutes

I could also see it causing a schism in the sport as it’s inevitable it will be banned within the next couple of years for under 18’s domestically but obviously most countries will not do such and it creating such a major division in the skills coming through.

Probably Gordon Cowans. Has dementia, won the European Cup in 1982, played in the 1990's and had several games for England.

If not him, then you're looking at one of the players from the early 1980s that had a long career into the 1990's.
