Steinman told Rolling Stone Magazine a few years back that Meat Loaf is the only person that can sing his songs just how he intended them to be, which begs the question will Meat bag the lead role in the musical? although I suspect that could be a stretch for the big man.

I think the operative phrase there is "a few years back". ;)

Quite right T,

8 shows a week on the west end is a young man's game, besides Meat Loaf probably prefers to keep on playing golf with Alice Cooper, than making Steinman his next million!

Yes, I know Bat 2 is mainly reworks from the 'orrible Bad for Good. Didn't know about Bat the Musical. Is it based on Neverland, the project he has been working on since college that was to be the original basis for the Bat song cycle?

You can read the script of Neverland here:

http://www.jimsteinm.../neverland4.htm

http://www.jimsteinm.../neverland5.htm

Since you are a fan, here are some of the songs, which are basically parts of Bat Out of Hell in embryonic format:

http://www.jimsteinm...om/neverlnd.htm

Yeah DJL, thanks for the links, not sure what would be in the musical or indeed left out!

This is the web address to register an interest in the upcomong musical, but like I said this has been on line for about three years now without further progress.

I wonder if Neverland will indeed be part of the musical? or is the musical? Although you'd think if he's been writing it since his college days it should be some where near bloody finished by now!

LOL. Cheers.

As it says "So either Steinman was talking about something he knew nothing about, hoping to cause some publicity and get people talking ..." I think, from reading a number of interviews with Steinman and Loaf down the years that they like fabricating stories about themselves. Loaf has given several variants on the story of how he acquired his nickname and Steinman has similarly changed stories about Neverland on a number of occasions. They obviously both herald from the Bob Dylan school of media-baiting/bullshit artistry.

He was supposedly working on a film version in 1981: http://www.jimsteinm.../neverland2.htm

By 1994, it was going to be called Bat Out of Hell 2100: http://www.jimsteinman.com/dallas.htm

I wonder if it will ever see the light of day in his lifetime.

Back on topic, this interview from 1997 talks about Steinman's many eccentricities. With regard to his health:

"First, there are the hours he keeps. The pasty-skinned creator of "Bat Out of Hell" lives the nocturnal life of a vampire; he has trouble dozing off before 8:00 a.m. "It's the eeriest thing to watch the `Today' show before going to sleep," he says. Those shows just reek of waking up and going to work and all of that responsibility. He has never had a 9-to-5 job, although he has a distinct memory of riding the subway one morning and being sickened by the sound of commuters clearing the morning phlegm from their throats.

[snip]

He lives alone in Putnam Valley, N.Y., about an hour from Manhattan, in a small rented house so cluttered with cartons, books, digital cassettes and papers that he literally has trouble getting to his piano. The mess pleases him, reminding him of the dumps he rented when he first moved to Manhattan in the early '70s. "The water up here must be toxic," he says. There are green stains in the sink.

He is terrified of doctors and has only visited one once in the past 25 years, and then only because he was in such pain that he thought he was dying and his friends insisted. He remembers Lloyd Webber lamenting, "I've finally found a lyricist, and now he's going to die on me." It turned out Steinman had been suffering from a severe case of colitis for a year.

He has worn the same pair of contact lenses for 17 years.

[snip]

He is also a man of large appetites. Lloyd Webber has watched in horror as Steinman has ordered half of the menu at fine restaurants. In his weekly food column for a London newspaper, Lloyd Webber wrote of Steinman: "He doesn't have an eating disorder. He has an ordering disorder."

Steinman is mystified that more people don't share his eating habits. "I love eating. I always like to try a lot of stuff. I'm always surprised that if people have the money, they don't do that."

The big guy is back on the road again this year, touring the UK with his 'Last At Bat Tour'

Quoted from www.meatloaf.net

"This series of incredibly special dates will see the singer perform a two-act show. The first act will include some of Meat Loaf’s greatest hits such as ‘Dead Ringer For Love’ and ‘I’d Lie For You (And That’s the Truth)’. The second act will be the classic debut album ‘Bat Out Of Hell’ – with all 7 songs performed in their original order."

The Pavarotti of Rock is given us the impression that he ain't due on our list just yet folks!!

Not really Bibliogryphon, I, like the The Death List Committee never had the kiddy fiddling moonwalking Jackson 5 member down for a drug overdose weeks before a big payday, but he did and the world got the award winning film "This Is It" to remind us all that he did rehearse really hard but not able to put on his last performance, a real shame that!

As for Meat Loaf, he could go at any time me thinks (heart issues), which begs the question, can lightening strike twice? International recording artist drops dead weeks before last tour dates and not on that years Death List?

I would imagine that going to watch him live would be like getting tickets to go and watch Olga Korbutt doing things on a beam at Wembley arena.

She wouldnt be as supple as she was, she would probably be pretty shit at Gymnastics per se actually and it would be painful to watch a legend way, way past her prime.

You would then lie through your arse to everybody about how brilliant she was.

Only took 10 yeas to fucking justify creating a separate thread for Meat Loaf in 2005. Post whores who want their name in lights. BTW this adds one to my total.

SC

PS goes for ass who started Angelina Jolie thread a month ago as prime example posting whore. No reason. Fuck, I'll just start up a thread for everyone we ever talk about....

Meatloaf was no more ill in 2005 than Tiger Woods. He's fat---so he gets a thread? Duly noted.

Meat Loaf collapses on stage in CanadaShades of Tommy Cooper. Doesn't look good at all.

Loaf collapses but Cliff gets off. A bleak day for rock 'n' roll! :D

That's cruel...but fair.

'Twas dehydration..

Meat Loaf has revealed that he has a back injury.

Speaking to 5 live's Colin Paterson and Sam Walker, the Bat out of Hell singer said:

"It doesn’t hurt when I’m sitting but when I stand up it’s like I’m in Norman Bates’ movie, Psycho. In it I’m being stabbed by Norman Bates. It hurts like hell."

Referring to a performance in June when he collapsed on stage Meat Loaf said:

"That had nothing to do with the pinched nerve it was hydration, dehydration that was all it was." He added "when we play live, we don't stop".

Meat was on BBC One's Saturday Morning Kitchen Live as the celebrity guest yesterday, presented by The Hairy Biker's.

They had to cut the food for him to sample, he appeared to be only using his right arm.

Enough evidence to convince me that he definatly had a stroke in June.

His speech was slurred slightly and he was pausing a lot between his comments, although he mentioned since being on 5live earlier in the week that that was down to having a swollen tongue (probably due to his medication).

This guy has gone down hill rapidly this year.

At 68 years old, I would have on the list next year.

He's currently promoting his new album Braver Than We Are, hence, all the UK coverage.

All this promoting of what surely should be his last album, will be having an effect.

Loaf's career in Australia is over as new album sells just 344 copies in first week: http://www.news.com.au/entertainment/music/meat-loafs-career-over-in-australia-as-new-album-sells-just-344-copies-in-first-week/news-story/605701ef0e2479b3b3a6d6e3ceb2daca

I didn't even know he had a new album out, let alone another Steinman collaboration. No wonder it is flopping.

UPDATE: Here is a song from it. His voice is ruined and the sexual innuendo... isn't Steinman's best (an "erection of the heart?!"):
