Spade_Cooley 9,515 Posted January 1, 2022 Hoped for uniques: Bill Steel: former Corrie actor and continuity announcer in the Tyne Tees region. Has been in end-of-life care since at least last March, and not mentioned on this forum so far. Could easily fall shy of some Corrie theme team picking him though. Alyson Williams: R&B singer, thought I'd take a punt on one COVID intensive care type. Been mentioned on SoulStrut though so probably won't unique. Isabel Torres: maybe the only QO risk I've got, Spanish actress and trans rights activist. Her show, Veneno, is showing on HBO Max globally though and I think the trans angle will get her a QO. Again, her cancer has been discussed on some English-language websites so could easily be on 3/4 teams. Sister Catherine Wybourne: Old school DQSP pick, but those who follow her on Twitter will know she is "cleaning up her sock draw", slang term for getting your affairs in order prior to an imminent death. Will not see April. Traci Braxton: If I call this right it'll be one of my best picks ever, saw one reference to her being in hospice care on Twitter, from someone who further research suggests does know her. Didn't appear in a Braxton family group Zoom chat over Christmas, and her Instagram photos haven't shown any fresh photos of her for months.
The Old Crem 3,581 Posted January 1, 2022 Surprised cyclist Amy Pieters didn’t get more mentions on here. But my main hope for an Unique is Trevor A Toussaint. Hollyoaks actor whose character has been absent since September and who has been mostly silent on social media since June. Just a punt pick.

Mike Mora Photographer Unfortunately the committee has already ruled against Mike Mora as a pick. Even though he is a professional photographer, we simply could not find any evidence of him getting news coverage or renown for his photography work. Merely being called the "photographer husband of Kelis" seemed moreso to be flavor text as he has only ever seemed to be mentioned in context of his far more famous wife. Death Impends 7,953 Posted January 1, 2022 Also there is no official verdict on Amy Price at the moment. She did count last year when we first rolled out the FFBI ban. I guess double checking can't hurt for a borderline case. But please do not speak for the committee as the last word with pick fame or not rests with us.

Skipped both of these, they were the already disqualified-in-thread Mike Mora and Robyn Free, who won top prize on game show Beat the Chasers earlier this year. New name for me but yeah, my "one appearance on a game show" bar is pretty high. The only one I can think of that I'd count is Michael Larson if not for the whole dying 20+ years ago thing. Didn't believe she'd have any chance of a UK obit so she was relegated to my teams in more accepting pools. Just scanning over some of the revealed teams and I honestly think this year might end in a tie. So much overlap. Will reveal my picks when I know whether or not my one borderline pick is accepted or not.

Not gonna say who, or even what the ruling was, but I was part of a 2-1 verdict on a name a week or so back and it was one of those cool little "oh eck, I really am a co-host now" moments! Now that the deadline has passed... the 2-1 verdict was approving Marina Oswald. Fringey name but the historical interest and long-standing Wikipedia article was enough to qualify.

Predictor 1,018 Posted January 1, 2022 Sorry @Spade_Cooley I also picked Bill Steel (not in a Corrie theme team though). Could still be a good differential for you. My team. 1. George Alagiah: One of four returnees. A D40 certainty. 2. Ady Barkan: Has had ALS for a long time now. Never had him before, so not tired of him unlike others. 3. Michel Bouquet: Hasn't been picked in the DDP since 2015, but I'll be stunned if that streak continues. Especially with a French theme team around. Whatever the case, I don't think he'll see 2023. 4. Gary Burgess (joker): Just a matter of time. 5. Frank Field: Same. 6. Sacheen Littlefeather: She is special to me, because I was the first one to pick her in DDP. She has been a unique for me twice. She has been sick for a long time now. If she is a winning pick for me, then I should get a spokesperson for a random cause to accept the prize for me. Maybe someone from the oppressed group of gamers? 7. Clare Marx: Was a bit unsure about her obit chances. But being the first female something does increase the chances. Also, there is QO precedent in Norman Browse. 8. Linda Nolan: My only returnee from last year. I was very undecided on this one. 9. Pele: I don't think he is a dead cert, but a high enough likelihood. Edit: Ok, maybe he is a dead cert. 10. George Perez: Seems like an almost guaranteed points for this year. Just to be sure regarding QO, I saw that Dennis O'Neil got a Daily Mail obit in 2020. 11. Bill Steel: More specific than just Alzheimers, which means that he won't be around that much longer. 12. Susie Steiner: Another likely death for 2022. Unsure about D40. 13. Jean-Louis Trintignant: Returnee who I'm surprised is still alive. Second French male actor on my team. 14. Bill Turnbull: Was either him or Weiskopf. Turnbull is a more likely D40. 15. James Whale: Another mainstream pick. Risky unique hopefuls: Ed Gale (b. 1963): A few days ago, I started reading about studio executive Frank Price. That led me to the film Howard the Duck, which led me to discover Ed Gale. Who? He's an actor with dwarfism who played Howard (in the duck costume). He was also the doll Chucky in the horror franchise Child's Play. So that's the main character in two 1980s cult classics. Why him? Well, I don't want to link his Facebook page (feels too intrusive), but he has stated in one of the livestreams that he is terminally ill (hint: 4 June 2021). I think it's lung-related because he has one of those oxygen tubes. He hasn't been active in a while, so I hope he is still alive. If he isn't, then that's just sad on so many levels. Cross that, definitely still alive. Obit is uncertain but his resume makes it worth the risk. Very headline-friendly for the likes of Guardian. Eoghan Harris (b. 1943): Irish writer with returning prostate cancer. Felt a bit too local, but the recent Twitter scandal, which cost him his job, made its way to some British newspapers. Self-described as having "terminal cancer" and "limited time left" in an article from May 2021. He said that Sinn Fein had an even more malignant cancer, which made me think "dunno who that is, but maybe I can add both to my team". Lol... Mosharraf Hossain (b. 1981): Brain cancer, hospitalized in October. Major QO risk. I reasoned that cricket is big enough a sport in the UK that maybe he'll get a mention somewhere. He also had an arguably better international career than Tahir Mughal (just 5 ODIs but still). His last ODI was in 2016 against England. Bangladesh is one of the top teams in the world, so what would that be the equivalent of in different sports? A Finnish ice hockey player with a few caps getting Canadian obits? Btw, got picked in Deathrace so looks like not only on my radar... Eric Lamaze (b. 1968): Horse jumping Canadian. Was picked by someone in Scavenger game in June. A recent update from November seems to indicate that he is still struggling. How fatal it is, I have no clue. Wouldn't have gambled if he didn't win gold in Beijing. Bill Spence (b. 1923): British writer. I was looking for someone who was just below centenarian (for 5+ points), with decent likelihood of obit (the reveal made the news), and with some degree of health problems. All the while being unmentioned around here, but maybe Biblio has him? Also, I just think he is a really fascinating person. Was tempted to add all his pen names and disguise it as a full team. So when Bill Spence dies, so does Jessica Blair, Duncan Spence, Jim Bowden, Floyd Rogers, Kirk Ford & Hannah Cooper, and I get points for each one. Alas, for a pseudonymoholic, he didn't have nearly enough names for a team.
