Kill or Save: UK No. 1-hits of the 70s

Recommended Posts

This has been a lot of fun and if it was extended to 80s No.1s then I would be very happy but I am thinking what we would be like in the were 10s No.1s we would probably be saying "Kill them all with fire"

Who would have the staying power? There were 39 different number ones in 2010, and 31 in 2011! As an aside, being an old fart, I'm familiar with only 3 of the 2010 number 1s, though 2 are covers, and 4 of 2011, again 2 are covers. I suspect this would be similar for the rest of the 2010s.

Ed Sheeran, Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Lewis Cappaldi, Taylor Swift, Harry Styles etc etc.  I will be trading in my up votes for more down votes

It could be, then, that we do the best No.1 of the 80s, 90s and possibly 00s as we have been here, but when we get to the 10s we flip the game on its head to find the worst?

At least 2012-2013 has Diamonds by Rihanna. So that's one good song out of 40. (I'm exaggerating, the Avicii song is decent too, so that's 2 out of 40 odd...)

Pre-emptive congratulations to Swagger Jagger by Cher Lloyd!

Maybe all songs from the 2010s could start with 6 points

We've got the Backstreet Boys, Doop and a certain fucking 80s Bunny to kill off first.

Regretting this idea yet, @Book:lol:

Just looked the 2010s no. 1s up to see how many I could remember without listening to them. Most I know is 2013 with 16/30 songs, least I can recall is 2016 with 4/11 songs.

I think I would struggle to identify the tracks by title but if I heard them I would know them. I had to do this a bit for the early 70s but all of the 78/79 tracks I knew instantly.  My chart knowledge drops off from 1992 onwards

We better have a 60s round some point before encroaching the 2010s ;)

(Not 50s mind. While I like more songs from the final couple years than I probably should, most of the decade would end up being "Bill Haley wins by doing absolutely nothing against a bunch of anodyne crooners.")

Shame, I always liked Ring My Bell.  Quite a floor-filler back in the day.

Still, I suppose most of the dross has already been cleared out.
