Maybe, but look at the wonderful stuff we've had in 78 and 79.   I greatly prefer the tail end of the 70s to the tail end of the 80s.

The late 80s were dreadful, all the decent pop bands of the early 80s finished/ran out of steam and the charts were dominated by awful Stock Aitken and Waterman records, until they in turn gave way to rubbish dance/trance/house stuff which disappeared up its own arse on the one hand and multiple groups of pretty Irish boys sitting on chairs doing anodyne ballads on the other. I'd become a young fogey who listened primarily to classical music by the late 80s.

And I concur, the final few years of the 80s are an utter deadzone, I typically skip the weekly 80s countdown if I see it's 1988 or 89. The trajectory of 80s chart music is like an inverse of the 60s.

I used to like Pet Shop Boys until I saw them live. They were the Opening Act to Take That about ten years ago at Wembley Stadium, lol. Put me right off their music.

I don't really share your view on late 80's music. For example, as a very young teenager, I grew up listening to SAW music. I was totally in love with Kylie Minogue, then along came Jason Donovan... ;) I still have positive and light-hearted associations with the late 80's and can still hear a lot of the songs well. It's the time of my adolescence. Everything was growing and still so innocent - a little later not so anymore... :D

Anyway: I love late 80s music!
