Ideas and possibilities for 2024

Recommended Posts

I also like to occasionally look at people who have received a lifetime achievement award, because maybe it's their last chance to get one...

Here, for example, Michael J Fox, 3 weeks ago: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-12167407/Michael-J-Fox-supported-family-receives-Lifetime-Achievement-honor-NYC.html

More obscure, Taiwanese actress Brigitte Lin: https://sg.style.yahoo.com/brigitte-lin-receive-golden-horses-060200513.html

Susan Lucci and Maury Povich: https://variety.com/2023/tv/awards/susan-lucci-maury-povich-daytime-emmys-lifetime-achievement-award-1235646217/

Busta "Remember him?" Rhymes: https://people.com/bet-awards-2023-busta-rhymes-tears-up-lifetime-achievement-urges-rappers-not-to-fight-7553073

And of course, the already mentioned honorary Oscar winners Mel Brooks, Angela Bassett, Carol Littleton and Michelle Satter.

Do you remember "Joe the plumber", the model conservative blue-collar figure in the Obama vs McCain campaign?

Well, he wasn't a plumber and his real name is Samuel Wurzelbacher. AND, Twitter tells me that he has been diagnosed with stage 3 pancreatic cancer. The classic media haven't picked up on it yet, news is a day old. There is some fundraiser (of course, there is) but I cant post the link on mobile.

An update on Samuel Wurzelbacher's fundraiser on 22nd June stated that his doctor shared the opinion that he was probably stage 4 at diagnosis. Seems like they're still trying to find the correct treatment plan for him but has already lost over 100lbs in weight. Not promising at all.

The first in an (very) occasional series of posts looking at a deadpooler truism - that a celebrity selling their home is usually a sign they're on the way out. Here's the "celebrity homes on the market" stories from TMZ this past month (ignoring anyone too young, unless you think Kaley Cuoco should be on the 2024 DL).

Danny Bonaduce - selling due to a neurological disorder, but he says recent surgery has been successful.

Rod Stewart - on the market for $70m but he's still touring, so probably nothing of note.

Bret Michaels - this is more like it, how the fuck is this guy still alive? However, he is still playing gigs, you can catch him with Sammy Hagar and Rick Springfield on the Rock Legends Cruise if you don't like music.

Dr. Paul Nassif - from Botched, top plastic surgeon. Brother died unexpectedly last year.

Madonna - this news came out before the revelation about her recent hospitalization.

John Fogerty - also still touring. I think this round of updates might be a bit of a dud.

I agree with this list….their time is up

Because there is no thread for Vietnam war vets yet (surprisingly) and the Medal of Honor recipients I'm mentioning here right now all served in Vietnam and not Korea, I have to give the update here.

So Roger Donlon being the immortal that he is, attended another event just last month and I found a short video clip of him at that event. His Parkinson's looks to be worse than ever, hands constantly trembling through the video and it seems like he's barely able to move and talk at this point. I also managed to find somewhere that recipient Jose Rodela is now frail and suffering from dementia and heart disease so you might want keep an eye out there. Clarence Sasser has become frailer too and isn't able to walk without mobility aids.

As you can see, I’m completely in favour of Clint taking the no. 50 spot, it would be perfect for him, he could die in a year or decade. Don’t hound me about Dick Van Dyke’s absence, he’s probably still in the best shape of all this year’s candidates.

Yes I heard that Julie isn't having a good year

But yah I suppose I may as well share my 2024 list when I've wrote it down. I pencil it first, so if some of them die I can just rub out their names and replace them -_-

Take this circle-jerk to a PM or the appropriate thread.

Just because Twitter/Reddit are dying doesn't mean we should turn this site into them.

french icon Line Renaud recently stated in an interview that she would like to be euthanized if ever she suffers. She had a stroke in 2019 and will be 95 in some months. I always thought she could reach 100 but she seemed really frail the last times she appeared in public hence her position on my list (not everyone makes it to 100 or something like that).

Wouldn't shock me if she get euthanized at some points, she had always support the cause and considering the governement will decide on the law at the end of the year, she could use the opportunity to make a splash and leave in style. She has always  been very politically active.

Celebrated her 95th birthday with more than 50 celebrities in her home near Paris. Looks pretty decent for her age. Walks unaided apparently and she's quite energic. She said that she didn't want to celebrate her 95th because she wanted to wait for her 100th but she's not sure all of her friends will be there. Pretty positive which is a big part at that age. Could be drop from my list for next year but as it's Line, she'll be my spot 50 till she goes.

Should be considered for a future list though as she is one of the most popular figure of french culture.

A name I don't believe has been mentioned on here before. Annye C. Anderson (b. 1926) is the half-sister of bluesman Robert Johnson – she was 12 when he died. Her memoir Brother Robert was published in 2020 and she has made in-person appearances promoting it as recently as February. Might well obit as she is the last living person who knew Johnson.

Was this suggestion prompted by the video of Sobers meeting the Indian team in Barbados?

Yep. Put into my mind. Just happend to pop up in my FB feed. Had actually thought he died a few years ago but then I then thought nah it'll be a big big death in the cricket world.

Now he looks ok, well enough to be doing that anyway but do think he's getting to that age for DL consideration
