Of the songs left, it and Ashes to Ashes are my favourites. If only the Pet Shop Boys and Dusty hadn't been kept off the top spot by Rick Astley, I much prefer that of all the PSB songs...

 

Mind you, most of my favourite 80s songs (For Whom the Bell Tolls by Metallica, Free World by Kirsty MacColl, etc) never troubled the charts at all! 

 

And some big favourites got kept off top slot by utter shite.

So it is - for a ballad. Though I can't watch the video with that girl getting in the plane without guffawing that she probably held little interest for Yog.

But the best song of the entire 80's? Absolutely no way. I can't even imagine anyone that voted for it really believes that.

 

I don't really do 'favourites' per-se, it might change as the mood takes me, but for a best song of the 80's and arguably one of the biggest game changers today's choice off the top of my head doesn't even feature in this list as it was never number 1. Blue Monday.

I wonder if the format of this game means that, more often than not, you end up with compromise winners, i.e. nobody is really that into them but they'll tolerate them. Extreme likes and dislikes cancel each other out, and the middle of the pack survives.

What is 'best' really depends on definition. From those left, Into the Groove is the one I enjoy listening to the most, but The Model is probably the most influential/significant.
