I reckon the Labour Party could seal the deal if they put electoral reform in their manifesto.

Why on earth would they? Trade a 300 seat majority in for 42% of the seats? I accept PR is inevitable and necessary in an increasingly multi-party system, but these are not the circumstances it will happen under IMHO. Same thing happened in 1997 - Ashdown felt sure Labour would follow through with PR, didn't happen with a majority of 170-odd.

I see the Reform candidate who stood aside for Farage in Clacton is now running against him

Oh please can somebody ask Nigel what he thinks about this? "So, Mr Farage, do you think it was fair to cast aside someone campaigning to be your MP for Clacton for a personal vanity project?" :D

I'm hoping the bleak picture for the Conservatives nationally will mean they will drift out to better prices in Leicester East and the Scottish seats. Though I abhor any Conservative seats in the next election, where there is a bet there is a bet....

Ed McGuinness, the Tory candidate in Michael Esgovebar’s old seat Surrey Heath, has been caught claiming to have moved into the area…while posing outside an AirBnB. That level of honesty and integrity makes him the perfect successor to Gove.

So the Tories revert to type, with Sunak declaring a "moral mission" to bring down the benefits bill: https://news.sky.com/story/general-election-rishi-sunak-says-reforming-welfare-is-moral-mission-as-he-pledges-to-cut-rising-costs-of-benefits-13149983

Meanwhile, Laura K had a late night meeting with Jon Sopel last night, where he urged Laura to distance herself from Sunak and his policies:

Funny that as I feel we have a moral mission to bring down this government!

Couldn't believe Laura K was still defending Sunak over fucking off from the D-Day stuff. Even for her!

Just as an aside, I've worked out that since 1951, whenever a  government has been slung out, they get less and less a proportion of the overall vote.

1951 - 48.8% (Labour)

1964 - 43.4% (Conservative)

1970 - 43.1% (Labour)

1974 - 37.9% (Conservative)

1979 - 36.9% (Labour)

1997 - 30.7% (Conservative)

2010 - 29.0% (Labour)

By this measure the Tories are going to get torched.

Good observation, evidence for there being fewer and fewer party loyalists (an international phenomenon)

And more and more options. The rise of the Liberal vote in the 70s. The SDP in the late 70s, early 80s. The Lib Dems in 97. The Greens and UKIP in 2010. Now the SNP are much bigger players and Reform. Although the Commons doesn't always show it, we do live in an increasingly multi-party society.

Midnight.

After much wailing from Tories saying " you don't know the results yet".

We've known the result for months. It's a question of how big now.

Predictions

10pm - exit poll, Laura K talks to some Tory guests about how exit polls can be wrong like in 1992.

10.50pm - first result from Sunderland. Small swing to Labour because they already have a big majority. "Wont win a majority on that swing."

1am - first Labour gain.

2am-3am - killing fields

3.10am - Sunak: "its been a bad night for the Conservatives."

4.00am - some sort of victory speech from Keir Starmer

4.30am - Tories lose a seat which hasn't existed since 1832.

9am - Sunak announces he will go to the palace

9.05am - Laura K - "Where did it all go wrong for Keir Starmer?"
