Prophet 251 Posted January 1 If they wanted to have a conductor on the list, they should have rather chosen Michael Tilson Thomas instead.
wannamaker 1,395 Posted January 1 Just now, Prophet said: If they wanted to have a conductor on the list, they should have rather chosen Michael Tilson Thomas instead. They're both in bad health so idk about that.
gcreptile 10,945 Posted January 1 Loving this pick, but then I would.... It might be one year early, but also might not. Decent. I've posted enough on him in the classical musicians thread.
DoffinCodger 13 Posted January 1 I’ve a feeling this is one year early, he’s lost weight and seems a few steps slower but he wagged the Berlin Phil two weeks ago. (Though the only review I’ve seen says it was dreadful and he was frail/lost). Tilson Thomas, however? Literally saying goodbye very publicly…. He’s on my list.

The Daredevil 1,188 Posted January 9 Barenboim leading the BerlinPhil at the conclusion of 2023. Doesn't look like a worthy 2024 DeathList candidate at all based on these pics. Does anyone here know what "serious neurological condition" Barenboim has been suffering from? 1

Tilson Thomas did his entire concert standing.

Octopus of Odstock 2,180 Posted May 5 I must admit, I forgot this chap was on the list. Anyway, he's coming over to the UK to perform at the Proms - https://www.theguardian.com/music/2024/apr/25/bbc-unveils-2024-proms-lineup-daniel-barenboim-daleks-and-disco If he's well enough to travel and conduct, I think he'll make it through the year.

Arsewipe 202 Posted August 9 To be honest I've never heard of him, but still more deserving to be on the list than Bill Gate's dad or Derek Draper ever were.

This was Nigel Starmer Smith (formerly a big imposing kind of guy) Christmas 2021. Unable to eat or drink for himself, struggling to breath, not recognising anyone. Meant to have considerably gone downhill SINCE then too.

Ulitzer95 12,434 Posted October 9 Should be dropped next year for no other reason other than the fact that he is an incredibly boring pick. Bill Gates' dad was more fun.

gcreptile 10,945 Posted October 9 Ah well, better than "random old person we haven't had any news on in 6 years" (Greenspan, Gall, Blix, Turner, and more).
