Not only that, but there is a history of actual candidates in elections being elected when they're dead: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2014/10/01/five-people-have-won-election-to-congress-despite-being-dead/
Commtech Sio Bibble 2,063 Posted October 17 If any of you want a fun fact about Jimmy Carter's longevity, given that George lowered it's voting age to 18 in 1943, Jimmy is one of very few people to have to opportunity to vote for both Franklin D. Roosevelt and Kamala Harris.

The Daredevil 1,189 Posted October 19 Probably a November death. He may well die one year to the day Rosalynn died (19th November). That would be another fitting final achievement.

Commtech Sio Bibble 2,063 Posted November 4 Apologies for the bump, but I feel it is worth noting that as of today Jimmy is now the longest lived major Presidential candidate. Beating Alf Landon, the Republican candidate in the election of 1936, who lived until 1987 aged 100 years and 33 days. The only other somewhat notable Presidential candidate to reach 100 is Strom Thurmond, a third party candidate in the 1948 election, who lived for 100 years and 203 days.

There was a draft movement for former Senator James Buckley of New York in 1976. Buckley who lived to 100 years and 162 days I don't know if he actually became a candidate so not sure if this would count.
