RIP Willie spent many a happy hour listening to him talk about Snooker seemed like a nice bloke too I suppose ‘Mr Maximum’ will have to make his next 147 in the great Snooker hall in the sky. RIP.

The first of the Mob to go Chas will be raking them up as we speak. RIP.

Poor Mr Thorne, loved his banter with Terry Griffiths back in the day.

Far as I know, only one hit single in 1986! Gone from pink to blue far too soon.

I would not have thought he would need crowdfunding to raise the cash for his hospital care.

Now a BBC confirmation of death at 66

Not familiar with him then? He gambled away many many millions of his earnings from his snooker hey-dey to the point of ending up millions in debt. Tragic really.

It's hard to believe that he never won a major snooker title. He always seemed to be  playing at the top of the game with the other top players. His only major final was the 1985 UK final which he lost (to Steve Davis),, but only just. But there is no question he will always be fondly remembered as one of snookers top personalities, even if he never acheived the greatness of Steve Davis Stephen Hendry or Ronnie O'Sullivan. The world of snooker is in mourning today. His loss will be felt. :(

Here he is in happier times with some of his mates. Willie is on the far left of course..

As usual using this as the general snooker thread.

World Championship gets under way tomorrow amid a cocophony of noise as it becomes the first indoor sporting event to have spectators since Covid.

Anthony Hamilton qualified and the pulled out gifting Kyren Wilson a walkover, prompting Barry Hearn to accuse him of robbing someone else of a place at the crucible (presumably Scott Donaldson who he beat in qualis)

Judd Trump has told O'Sullivan he should pull out if he's actually concerned about Covid suggesting he's more concerned about getting the headlines.

And obviously there's the added bonus of waiting for the first audience member to cough.

John Virgo not looking great on the BBC's Snooker coverage. Not commentating this year as he is in Spain and unable to get back due to Covid.

Hard to tell on a webcam to be honest. Sounded ok and always looked a bit dishevelled in the commentary box truth be told. Looking back at photos on Google maybe a bit thin? But odd angle on a webcam. This was him on GMB in 2017.

Good Morning Britain fans in meltdown over John Virgo appearance ...

He certainly appears to have lost a lot of weight since 2017.

Oh that is very unlucky. He was a unique pick in 2019 and 2020 for two different teams, but no one picked him in the 2021 DDP!

Why would you pick Doug Mountjoy when Ray Reason was still alive?

The answer being Doug Mountjoy was a smoker who had lung cancer in 1993 and had one of his lungs removed.

Reardon 10 years older but got two lungs.

Looking like Reardon might be almost as hard to kill off as Dracula at this rate.
