Dead Pop Stars

So February the next twenty years boding to be as crapulous as January for the music world.

I've explained this theory before and we'll see how it pans out but I'll call it the post-war effect. Someone born in 1935 is now 81-82 1939 is now 76-77, someone born in 1945 is now 70-71, someone born in 1940 is 65-66. A lot of people from these cohorts will have been underfed as kids (thank rationing well into the 50s). A lot of the 1935 cohort have outlived expectations so are on the way. The kids who grew up during the war and became famous in the 60s are likely to have destroyed their bodies. And then due to radio, film and television really taking off in the 60-70s we have many many more celebs at both ends of this age range to choose from. This perfect storm means for the next few decades X of band/film franchise/tv show has died will be a bi-weekly occurrence - X almost always being a household name or part of a household name..

Joe Dowell, US singer who had a US 1961 hit with Wooden Heart, has died from a heart attack at 76. http://lethbridgeherald.com/entertainment/entertainment-news/2016/02/04/joe-dowell-had-no-1-hit-with-wooden-heart-dies-at-76/

Here's his version:

I grew up listening to oldies (50s/60s) station in Detroit and I've NEVER heard this dreary treacle. Sad days that could make #1. Where's Wrecking Ball when u need it! :-?

Indeed. Must be a lousy investment, though, terminally ill celebs.

You're already behind the times if you didn't search crowdfunding pages. But all they do is tell you who has the big C. And even then you gotta go deep into your search to find em all. I never saw anything for Vanity for example. Doesn't mean your pick those people. I Never saw Haggerty as a dead man, that was a shocker and I'm guessing a pleasant shocker to even Cooley.

Anyway, I'm glad you had this epiphany.

Glen Frey tribute with Jackson Browne doing Frey's job and Bernie Leadon back on board to throw in some licks.

So...do they make this a band from here on in. The money says yes, the purists say no.

A big miss for my theme team Gris Gris but how could I have ever discovered some dude named Pantelis Pantelidis?!??

Pantelis Pantelidis, a singing sensation who got his big break after becoming a sensation via YouTube, was killed in a car accident at 8:00am local time in Athens, on Vouliagmenis Avenue.

Kate Pierson announces the death of Paul Christian Gordon (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Gordon_(musician), keyboardist and guitarist with The B-52s since 2007. https://www.facebook.com/katepiersonofficial/posts/953854791328912

He was also the keyboardist in the New Radicals. Apparently the dreamer's disease isn't curable.

It's sad, but Paul Gordon only started playing with them 9 years ago. So it was well after their heyday.

They headlined the Rewind South festival about 3 years ago and were absolutely dreadful. I didn't go, but watched a live stream and was pleased I hadn't missed much. Friends there said they were awful, as did most of the regulars on FB etc. They had no rapport with the audience whatsoever.

I saw the highlights of it, they just came out, sang their hits and that was it. There were other artists/bands that performed thart were known for only 1 or 2 songs that had more of a connection with the crowd and for them it was the biggest moment of their lives since their popularity waned.
