Probably best known for their US R&B hit Fantastic Voyage from 1980, which subsequently dented the UK charts as a sample of the similarly titled number by Coolio in 1994:

Up on his website: https://www.rogerwhittaker.com/

I picked him last year iirc. I have quite the strike rate of former TOTP picks this year.

Oh wow.... HUGE name in Germany among the.... well...80+ year old crowd.

But I still wouldn't be surprised if he went on another "farewell tour".

My grandad always liked his music, presumably because his hearing aids never fucking worked properly.

I thought of him the other day when there was talk about people who had their own TV shows.  I couldn't remember if he did or not, and anyway I thought he died years ago.

I posted his 87th birthday not 6 months ago.

What a great song. What was freaky about it?

I always assumed he was American, never realised he was British.

It's mildly freaky at best - but that's - kinda - the point. Roger was so straight it's a bit surreal to see him tackle a song with a psychedelic guitar in the background.

Actually born in Kenya to British parents but didn’t move to Britain until he was 23 and his first recording was done in 1962

The pinnacle of 1980s music. A top ten hit I think.
