Yes, she is. And she's "only" turning 78 this year.

Is that 78 RPM?

Oh no, oh no, oh nonononono....

Died on the same day as Mary Eiss, soul singer Marlene Shaw.

Her song California Soul is frequently used in commercials and movies. Fantastic song. This is a Diplo remix with the proper visuals.

She's also famous for some samples lifted from her song Woman of the ghetto for the track Remember me by Blue boy.

I don’t know why, but his name wasn’t in my consciousness. But his theme tunes definitely are: I love his channelling of Shaft for The Professionals, and Animal Magic is a bossa nova beauty.

Unless I'm mistaken, Laurie Johnson was the last living bandleader of the 50s/60s to have graced the UK Singles Chart. Truly the end of an era with his death.

Milli Vanilli Founder Frank Farian Dead at 82

Better known for his work with Boney M, I would say. As well as producing their records he also provided the male vocal parts mimed by Bobby Farrell on stage.

"Oh, those Russians!"

Anders Sandberg of Rednex dead at 55.

Was a member of the group from 2001 (after their hit making days), before being fired in 2006.

Insert crude Cotton Eye Joe puns below here.

This was posted 18 hours ago and you’re getting likes for the obvious?  The post should have gotten chastised and everything relating to it ignored. This place has gone to hell in a hand basket.

Well, Sir Creep, your enthusiasm for pointing out the obvious is truly unmatched. Should we organize a parade to celebrate your groundbreaking insight? Or is that too much excitement for a place already en route to your described handbasket destination?

Back in the Seventies there was a Melanie Music Society that put out at least one collection of Melanie-inspired poetry written by her fans. Sad day for them if they're still around.

Yeah, it's an absolute outlier in her earnest hippiedom. Cracking story about how it came about, basically her high-flying hippie ideals led to a fast, and the smell of a McDonald's restaurant proved too tempting after 27 days of dietary restriction. After which the song came tumbling out in a whelter of remembered childhood incidents. Another of Those Careers in the days before streaming where one hit leads to a completely misleading idea of what the artist is like. See also Streets of London or Jig-a-Jig. Other than the obvious lock and key, sexual, stuff you could almost put the song down to drug influence of a different kind, i.e. the chemical hit from a full McDonalds on a dedicated hippie brain. So, maybe it's Eight Miles High but for burger fans.
