Summer in Transylvania 2,208 Posted August 26 After that last update, I figured he would be gone by the end of the week. I was only a day out. Rest in Peace, Sven. I'm not going to profess to know anything about football, but the tributes here seem to be sad ones, which is a good legacy to leave.

Slightly OT but this reminds me of one of my colleagues, who's an ex-teacher, revealing many of her pupils were sad at her departure. I told her it's better to have that reaction from them, than for them to be throwing a party because you were the nasty strict teacher they wanted to avoid at all costs. Apparently the 'record' is 97 for someone to have a parent alive - quite incredible. The parent was 117. 2

Yes it was Jamaican supercentenarian Violet Brown. Her eldest son died on April 2017 aged 97, she died on September 2017 aged 117.

Whitehouse 874 Posted August 26 I seriously thought he was dead already. He was almost a running joke in that sense.

My dad's nan made it to 101 and died when my dad was 55 and my grandad (her son) was the same age as Sven. He loved saying that the only thing that made him feel young when he was in his fifties was that he still had a living grandparent who gave him chocolates and sweets at Christmas. 5

Sven's dad interviewed today. He seems to be in quite good health mentally and physically. ...And when Torsby IF plays at home at Björnevi, Sven Eriksson will continue to be there. But now it will be without the son Sven-Göran. - It will be empty without him. We have always had football in common. - I am happy that I have many friends here.

Yes it's quite rare and would be an awful experience for the parent. My great grandaunt died just shy of 105 in 2021, her daughter was nearly 80 & she had outlived her granddaughter! Fergie86 377 Posted August 27 My Mum is 72 next month and her Mum is still alive at 97, she is quite frail now but is still in reasonable health for her age, my auntie who turned 70 earlier this year has lung cancer though treatable, so is possible that my Grandma could outlive one of her daughters.
