the_engineer 1,415 Posted August 27, 2014 From the BBC webs(h)ite - "A nine year-old girl in the US has killed her shooting instructor by accident while being shown how to use a high-powered submachine gun." Where do you start with a sentence like that. MENTAL !! No person under 18 should be firing a gun. But i don't agree with gun control and think people should be able to have a gun locked away at home to defend their property or for emergencies. Also the govts seem hell bent on disarming the public and anything the govt is hell bent on i oppose . Look at Dunblane there are some sinister stories associated with that . On a side note I'm guessing the vote yes is for Scottish Independence if you do gain Independence the English would of had their guns taken away because someone killed kids in what would then become a foreign country, if dunblane was to happen today it would be pulled apart like sandy hook was .I wish you all the best with gaining Independence for the reason I noted above (about the govt being so against it) but sadly i can see it being rigged like the Quebec independence vote , your vote don't count because they count the votes. Ulitzer95 12,638 Posted August 28, 2014 MENTAL !! So's voting yes in our referendum. So you would rather have a government that you didn't vote for rule us SMART THINKING Well I vote Tory, so I got the government I voted for. In fact, we have a coalition government of Tory + Lib. More people voted for Tory + Lib combined in Scotland than did for the SNP. The only party who can claim they're hard done by general election results in Scotland is Labour, and they're one of the parties calling for the UK to stay together! They know they'll be screwed down south if Scotland goes its separate ways, and they'll be screwed up north. Why? Scotland was, until SNP rise, the only part of the UK to EVER produce a majority Tory vote. It's a myth to say majority of Scots are Labour lovers and the centre right isn't prevalent in Scottish politics. In an independent Scotland, Labour will be screwed, SNP may splinter and cease to exist (although I doubt it), but one thing's for sure - you probably won't get the party you want in anymore than you do now. All the parties will change and you may not like the way they change one bit. But everyone who's voting yes seems to think they will. Hard-line lefties think an indy Scotland will be a socialist utopia, and the tartan right think it'll be a business haven. Can't be both... All this "An independent Scotland will be..." garbage is very telling of one thing - a lot of people have their heads in the clouds and are too ready to take a massive gamble because "it may" result in the type of government they want. Ummm, I'll stick to the current system I think. And about 75% of our affairs are taken care of in Holyrood anyway. You can't claim we don't get the gov we voted for there The only matters left to Westminster are ones we should be dealing with as a union of nations - defence namely. Just out of a recession, now's not the time to be forking out money to create a Scottish Armed Forces from scratch... nor would it be as effective as one which is combined of E&W, Sco + NI. Magere Hein 1,400 Posted September 6, 2014 No person should be firing a gun. FTFY But i don't agree with gun control and think people should be able to have a gun locked away at home to defend their property or for emergencies. Also the govts seem hell bent on disarming the public and anything the govt is hell bent on i oppose. Dunno. I have no quarrel with the 'to defend their property or for emergencies' bit, but the problem is that many owners don't keep their guns locked away all other times. I also think disarming the public is, in general, a Good Thing. I don't particularly trust my govenernment (or any other, for that matter), but experience taught me that violence like chucking bricks works just fine to change some aspect of government policy. Sometimes a government needs a bit of violence to remind it that it's governing people. The kind of government that requires fire arms to defend yourself from is rare in my part of town. regards, Hein

I'm not surprised that rag didn't check their facts, it rarely does. Farrell died 30 December 2010 rather than 29 December. Rasputin died 29 December 1916 in the Julian calendar, which equates to 16 December 1916 in the Gregorian calendar. regards, Hein

Speaking of utterly useless English rags, I originally stumbled across a mention of that Rasputin/Bony M. "fact" when reading this bizarre opinion piece in another notoriously unreliable/at-times-downright-bonkers UK paper, the Guardian. In this piece, the authoress claims that Kate Bush's song "Babooshka" contributed to some degree in bringing down the Iron Curtain: http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/aug/26/kate-bush-russians-britain-babooshka The comments section is hilarious.
Sir Creep 7,070 Posted March 12, 2015 Not to heat up the discussion of whether most of the posts in this thread are merely coincidence, rather I post this as a primer for what is without question (in an Œdipian sense) 'irony' on a couple levels. It's 10 months old or so but no matter. I rather like the term used in the article: 'disturbingly coincidental', and I think it sets apart nicely what is irony and what isn't. In any case, enjoy....it's from the good side of the Pond after all.
