Well, I missed Prescott making a Lords speech last November. It's only summarised on Hansard but he thanked people for their wishes. Allegedly he keeps active but I do note he hasn't voted in the Lords since February. He managed to keep up the regular votes when recovering from the stroke.

ATTENTION PLEASE, if you are a middle-aged man from Essex with a salad of letters after your name, please make yourself known, thank you.

Not breaking news, but as of July of 2024, he has ceased to be a member of the House of Lords and hasn't voted on any legislation since February of 2023.

Anyone else in favor of just retitling this thread "John Prescott" thus making it more searchable, and preventing another John Prescott thread from being created by another member?

Also had absolutely nothing to say about the last general election, not even on Twitter. Normally he would be first in the queue to gloat about a Labour landslide.

I find it sad that ridiculous thread titles like this one and the Andy Ripley boofheads are gradually being homogenised for convenience. The world gets ever more literal day by day. How long until Piper at the Gates of Heaven becomes Musicians of the Psychedelic Era?

There's a subheading field which is for jokes or quirky nicknames etc. "J Prescott" isn't practical for the search engine.

Also, whilst I'm here the Lara Roxx thread really needs to be renamed.

I shall remember this and create a Lord Prescott thread at a later date.

One less in an impressive series of British political elders: Tebbitt, Skinner, Bill Rodgers, Dick Taverne, Heseltine, Hattersley, Douglas Hurd, Norman Fowler...

Quite a bubble which is destined to explode sooner or later.

Actually a bit saddened by this news, though it was expected. I always quite liked Prescott's punchy style.

A veteran of a time when a politician had the guts to say what was really on their mind, and at least a few braincells to back it up. RIP.
