Maryport + the danger of watery death, combine for another news story.

My dad fell in the mud very close to the site of this accident when he was a toddler. He was saved, obviously.

I'm surprised Jamie Oliver hasn't travelled "oop North" to develop a Cumbrian Mud Pie; given it appears to be your most abundent natural crop....

Oh I am so glad he found the Lord. Might I ask of which religion he is now? Do you think he was saved (shout Hallelujah my heathen brothers and sisters) because of what he was wearing? Or was it usual that people were saved when being dipped in the mire? I'm not familiar with the rites and customs in Maryport~~~~~~~~~~~`or Cumbria or even Cambria Heights.

Fraserburgh's other claim to fame!

The two owners are a couple of twats. I don't know them personally.

Most people in the town support them - I don't.

Can't say that I'm unhappy to have just moved away from this place.

One sleaze kills two other sleazes and the original sleaze gets offed at Huntsville. There's a problem here?

In my head the title of this thread always makes me shout 'Marypoooooooorrrrrtttt!' in the style of David Mitchell shouting 'Hennimoooooooorrrreeeee!'.

Yes, allright, i'm drunk.

I see they've had a drop of rain up Maryport way, and notice that a certain member hasn't logged in for over 12 hours.

C'mon, an hour on the deathlist or an hour of donning the snorkel and looting pensioners life savings........it's a no brainer.

Thanks for your concern conveyed via Facebook messages and those of you who have hunted down my private e-mail, doorstepped my good self and or crept into my wardrobe to sneak out and scare Mrs MPFC in misguided attempts to see we're not drowning. On second thoughts maybe I just dreamed the last one.

In answer to the, literally, seven enquiries it is worth noting that Cockermouth and Workington are on the river Derwent, fed by high lakeland fells and - as of last Friday - a raging and untameable monster.

Maryport by contrast sits on the River Ellen which is fed by the pleasant little collection of rounded and unchallenging 'Northern Fells,' these hummocks lack the collective power to gather and discharge the volumes of water sluiced on poor Workington. The destructive power of the Ellen is further tamed by the fact it flows into Maryport harbour which experiences considerable tidal shifts and, therefore, offers a large target, reducing the power of the river to rise. The damage is minor, the news crews are freezing their collective bollocks off in Cockermouth and Wukkie and the slavvering West Cumbrian hordes are eyeing their Berghaus jackets with ill disguised envy.

Obviously, the problem of frightening and bedraggled Workington refugees, begging food and generally frightening the horses will soon require swift and decisive action in the Maryport area, but I'm still breathing, okay?

Sunny day in Workington Stobart trucks trundling to and fro and cheerful locals sharing their joy.

It can only be the heaven on Earth that is west Cumbria.

Whilst we're mocking God's country.........

So Derek Bird has managed to shoot all these people and evade the Police.

I'm more impressed that he managed to shoot all those Cumbrians and not hit a relative.

Bit close to home for me that one. My niece lives in West Cumbria so I had an "Oh shit" moment before I was able to find out she was ok.

Aye, all joking aside there's about half a dozen closish relatives around the various crime scenes I can't account for, though everyone, who knows someone shot, seems to have found out about it now. And - this far - we've heard nothing.

They seem to have gone back on the earlier report that one of the victims was his mother. Bit of a shocker.

Star Crossed has overstepped the mark this time.

I take it the argument in the taxi rank was about Patrick Moore then?

Television news tonight playing the shock and horror angle but......

The dead include his twin brother and the solicitor who represented him in a losing court appearance yesterday, so it's not totally random and some of the pieces are coming together.

Ah, back to good old family values under call me Dave. Didn't the Hungerford chap kill his mother? Never would have happened under Labour. [/tongue cheek etc.]

I don't suppose they'll be showing Hot Fuzz on BBC Cumbria this week, then.
