Clifford Cup winning former rugby captain N. H. Karunasena has died at the age of 60, after a short illness.

Karunasena, ironically, passed away on his birthday - September 26, and his remains, according to his wishes, was handed to the Medical College.

Too bad no one had the Party Pooper birthday bonus on this guy.

Sir Colin Meads has pancreatic cancer:

https://www.tvnz.co.nz/one-news/sport/rugby/sir-colin-meads-diagnosed-pancreatic-cancer-after-six-months-ill-health

He's already been feeling ill for the past six months, so it's probably already advanced. Doesn't sound too well.

Sir Colin Meads, 80, believes he is beating pancreatic cancer with the help of that well known cancer cure Taranaki Water...

93! So, his brain damage wasn't that severe, then.

I've been reading Paul Van Zandvliet's Facebook page to see how one of the cult picks for 2017 is doing.

What a day had doctors, nurses, physio, pain doctor, palitive care nurse, to sort out my DNR do not ressatate, thats because i have been ill wiyh everything over the past few months, and its coming up to 11 months since my diagnosis, so by there reconing ive still got 1-7 months left........and longer if i have the will too keep battling, never been better for months, left them all in a state of shock haha that am not on the slippery slope yet! and the TANKS still in the game YOUD BETTER BELIEVE IT!!!!

That was last month, and since then he had an op to reduce brain swelling, and claims the consultants are confident. Though, with a glioblastoma and secondary cancers in the liver, kidneys and pancreas, confident isn't exactly the phrase I'd be using.

No age for the fulla. Had a bit of a controversial career at times, but had health problems since about 2010, I think. Bit of a Lomu-esque illness perhaps, but not as high profile.

EDIT: Any chance of renaming this thread? Wasn't exactly obvious to me that this was the rugby union thread.

"After the bad news of yesterday and feeling like shite, faceing the news and the worst and best case sinario. so i have a timeline to get my house in order. After the initial tears with the family, i am feeling surprising positive no more time for tears, just time to get on with the battle for as long as i can maintain my strength NO FEAR."

Am going to read between the lines and guess that op didn't work.
