Robert Schuller's wife, Arvella, has died. Interestingly, the obit mentions the couple both fell ill about a week ago. Obviously, Arvella died, but Robert was released to a rehab facility. Can't imagine he has long now between the dead spouse and the cancer.

Yeah, I went long about Schuller because I was concerned about obit choices, but looking at it now he seems to be an obvious "rushed Daily Mail online obituary an hour after he dies" kinda guy. Anyone who picked him should make their way to the counter now.

Just when his country was in real need of some firm spiritual guidance, Patriarch Mor Ignatius Zakka Iwas I, supreme spiritual head of the Syrian Orthodox Church for the last 34 years, has gone to Germany and died.

I wonder if there will ever be a Patriarch Mor Ignatius Zakka Iwas II?

Guest Hegemon of Thasos

Canon Andrew White...quite possibly at moderate to severe risk of losing touch with his head.

Dear Friends,

Greetings from Baghdad. People are very fearful the nation looks as if it has collapsed. The usual hectic and crazy streets were this morning almost empty. The news from our friends in areas surrounding Baghdad is equally worry the Islamic State. ISIS or DAASH as they are known locally are very close to Baghdad. We do not really know what is happening all we know is that people are very afraid we know that civilians have been killed in air strikes we know that there are huge battles with ISIS and we know that our army is not very efficient.

This morning I was with one of my soldiers who is assigned by the government to protect me. I asked him what he would do if he saw ISIS coming. He told me he would take off his uniform and run. So I asked if he took seriously his role as a soldier to fight and protect his people he assured he did not. He told me he just did it because he needed the money.

[...]

At 2.40 am this morning I had a call from one of the security chiefs at the US Embassy here in Baghdad. Congressman Trent Franks in DC, who was very concerned about my security situation, had contacted them. He in turn had been contacted by one of our US Board members. We were with the congressman just last week, he is a good friend. The issue that was so worrying to the Embassy was that I no longer even have a badge to get into the Green Zone. I have a badge to get into the US and British Embassies but I cannot even get to them without being able to get into the Green Zone. We were able to get in until all the Badges to the Green Zone were replaced 6 months ago. So the Embassy say they will work at getting us the badge today. I really pray that this will happen today.

Love to you all,

Andrew

Someone I'm fairly certain won't be dying in 2015. Or 2016 - president of the Mormons Thomas S. Monson. (came across this while I was researching)

Judging by the standards of his predecessors in that post...

Televangelist Ernest Angley, parodied back in the day by Robin Williams, now 93 years old, is in trouble for leading his congregation like a sect, forcing women to abortions and men to vasectomies, also for molesting boys and protecting pedophiles.

Father John Cribben, from injuries sustained after falling 35 feet from a ladder while dusting his church.

What monstrous organisation employs 76-year-olds to clean their premises?

regards,

Hein

Rev Jack Heaslip, pastor to U2 has died aged 71 after battling MND.

He was an Anglican, which rather ruins my image of a priest touring the world with a rock band shout 'feck', 'girls' 'whiskey.

Seems Heaslip would have been an apt name for the 76-yr old priest what fell off his ladder dusting the place.
