Youth in Asia 1,087 Posted September 23, 2007 There once was a mime in his coffin With mourners all sad, hats a'doffin' He, with shakes of his head, Tried to shout "I'm not dead" But the assembled crowd couldn't hear noffin' There once was a mime called Marcel Who hoped to play footy for Arsenal Although he was French They left him on the bench And now he just plays pass-the-parcel
Banshees Scream 110 Posted September 23, 2007 He must have forgot to turn the mute button off. So he was a French-Jew. That's ... very common. Anyway I've always thought these silent dramatic performers were interesting. I mean the circus has a lot of 'clowns' and 'microscopic people' and men and women that are being shot out of cannons ... ex But I've never seen a 'Mute Marcel' at the circus. I can say that. If I did he was sure keeping it down.
Whitehouse 872 Posted September 23, 2007 I know he was in trouble when he showed his heart attack act. Very convincing performence.
maryportfuncity 10,662 Posted September 23, 2007 One great Marceau performance worth calling up here is his cameo in Mel Brookes' Silent Movie. In the movie they ring Marceau to ask him to appear in the film, and he says; 'non!' It's the only line spoken by an actor in the whole film.
Lord Fellatio Nelson 6,221 Posted September 23, 2007 So he was a French-Jew. So WTF has being a "French Jew" got to do with it? Twat!
Madame Defarge 21 Posted September 23, 2007 So he was a French-Jew. That's ... very common. I hate to break this to you, but there are probably more Jews and their descendants living in France than there are White Supremists living in the State of New York. Banshees Scream 110 Posted September 23, 2007 So WTF has being a "French Jew" got to do with it?Twat! It's like being Asian and Canadian, you just don't see it everyday. But I take your correction as a lesson. Not doing statistics by the books Being French and Jewish ' approximately 1\85 people. Not eye brow raising then. Being Asian and Canadian approximately ... 1\

Jimh 4 Posted September 24, 2007 I thought he had died ages ago I heard the news on the radio last night and immediately felt pig ignorant. For my entire life I had thought that Marcel was victorian and had died over a century ago. What a cretin. As an aside the BBC is having a Have You Say page about Marcel asking for the great unwashed to submit their memories of Marcel and the effect he had on their lives. As you can imagine a page asking the sort of people who submit thoughts to HYS about their memories of a French mime artist is very, very busy at the moment.
