DDP pick @gcreptile

Aye, much appreciated in places where chart tunes would clear rooms and coming to a List of the Lost radio show marking the dead of 2022 when it goes out on the first Sunday of 2023, we'll drop in a fragment called Pipe Dream (since I''ve just stuffed it into the show folder).

The internationally renowned German jazz musician Rolf Kühn is dead. The clarinetist died on August 18 at the age of 92 in Berlin. Kühn was considered one of the few internationally successful German jazz musicians and played in the USA in the 1950s with Benny Goodman, John Coltrane and Chick Corea, among others.

Research into the new masterpiece has turned me on to Creed Taylor. Surprisingly; considering I'm typing this whilst listening to his 1959 masterpiece Panic the man is still alive. He was already a significant player in the music business in the fifties - as in he conceived Shock (1958) and Panic (1959) - and went on to run his own label giving breaks to the likes of George Benson. Maybe, just obit-worthy even in this country

Creed Taylor reportedly dead aged 93: https://www.udiscovermusic.com/news/creed-taylor-rip/

Yeah, got an email just now about Branch (whose music has featured on a cultish radio show very close to my heart), so many of "ours" dead this year we can't ram them into a two hour round up first show of next year, so we're dropping tracks in as we go through this year to pick up the overspill.

Not confirmed, but there are heavy rumors that Pharoah Sanders has passed away this morning.

Edit: A confirmation (kinda?) from his son

Another confirmation from his record label.

Sad news. He was a giant.

Aww.... sad.

I kind of wanted to pick him in a deadpool before he goes, you know, to honor him. He had a quite good album out just last year, so he seemed to do well until recently.

I loved Karma, Journey To The One is also great. Lots of gems in the discography, I don't know them all.

Tobin was almost certainly the earliest surviving artist to chart in the US, over 80 years ago. Now the earliest to my knowledge are Ann Clark of The Sentimentalists, who turned 100 back on April 28th, and Nancy Norman, who was interviewed in 2014 so presumably still with us.

Norman may be dead? https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/bostonglobe/name/florence-jacobs-obituary?id=1821809

Born Florence Berman, married a Robert Jacobs in 1947, which corresponds with Wikipedia. Wikipedia claims she had 3 kids, but the obituary shows 2 kids, same issue appears with birthplace, LA v. Peabody, Massachusetts. She would've been 93, which works. (Shittipedia has no sources for these btw)
