YoungWillz 21,057 Posted December 17, 2022 Still in, shitting bricks at the Hit List Christmas Special, but Wham absent from the final list of songs. Got Mariah when I was at the shops earlier.
En Passant 3,741 Posted December 17, 2022 I was really close on Thursday night at the pool club. Thought I was done but it was the George Michael section of Do they know it's xmas..and it was his voice that had triggered me, mind I'd also had a couple by then. The whole pool team wanted to know why I was swearing the place up like a trooper (well more than I normally do). Had to explain, and that I apparently can't tell one bag of xmas shite from another at the first few notes after 2 pints of lager.
Toast 16,144 Posted December 17, 2022 I was in Home Bargains, Lidl, and Tesco yesterday, and don't recall hearing any Christmas music. Perhaps I've tuned it out.
En Passant 3,741 Posted December 17, 2022 To my knowledge neither Lidl nor Aldi have background muzak, none of the ones I've ever been to does. Tesco does. Home Bargains I wouldn't know, I do have some standards.

Now you mention it, Home Bargains does have music. I remember being in there during the first Covid lockdown and "Don't Stand So Close To Me" came on. (beyond Covid that is) Ok, I'm kidding but I've only been in either of those only once or twice whilst I'm happy as Larry in Aldi's or Lidl. Not really sure why if I'm honest. Marketing probably. maryportfuncity 10,647 Posted December 17, 2022 So, heard discussion of this on radio yesterday, tbh - never saw it when it came out in 2003, mainly because it was pulled after 800 complaints flooded in within a few days, Mr Kipling Christmas ad:

Toys, toiletries, kitchenware, cleaning stuff, confectionery, stationery, general hardware, all sorts. A bit like Woolworths used to be.

Yeah, sort of knew, was just having a pop for having a pop's sake about their rather downmarket image. I buy all my sink plungers at John Lewis of course.

ladyfiona 2,589 Posted December 18, 2022 Oh I lost last week btw. I decided to switch radio stations on my mum's car from Radio4 to Magic. Forgetting that they play Christmas music 24/7 in December and the first track I heard was Wham.

Toast 16,144 Posted December 23, 2022 Still unscathed. And to my surprise, heard this in Sainsburys. One of my favourite Christmas misery songs, and a suitably funereal video for the Deathlist forum.

TQR 14,400 Posted December 23, 2022 Wham off of -ageddon got No.2. Sidemen’s valiant effort Christmas Drilling was No.3. Mariah was No.4. Fuck The Tories got to No.7 which, when you consider the media, the BBC and the Official Charts refused to give them the time of day, is pretty remarkable. That’s 3 years in a row The Kunts have been well in the fight.
