Grim Reaper 186 Posted December 30, 2007 This is the place to discuss Elizabeth Edwards
Rotten Ali 600 Posted January 1, 2008 Yep, with you on Liz Edwards but I've put her in my 50 list to be a bit different without knowing just how she is doing with her cancer. John Edwards is pressing on with the 2008 bid and a sick wife will affect him and his team in so many ways. I'm a Bill Richardson fan from a-far and would not like to think Edwards would take the ticket on the passing of his wife alone, sad though it would be for all concerned. The US of A need a Pres' with a full grasp of overseas policy and Bill's the Man.
Godot 149 Posted January 1, 2008 I'm surprised to see her on the DL. A good pick for the DDP but I would regard her as very marginal in the DL's stringent fame test. Is she known on the Clapham omnibus? I doubt it.

Is she known on the Clapham omnibus? I doubt it. The Clapham Omnibus is not of course the criteria used for DL famousness - however when I recently filled a Clapham Omnibus with British newspaper journalists there was a slight majority in favour of reporting her death (should it happen) so her eligibility was confirmed. I'm pretty sure her death will be well reported in the UK media.

Clapham omnibus no, but American politics is more about who you are and who your family are and that plays large in the media world wide so it won't make the ten O'clock news on a busy day but I'm sure it will be inside feature page news in all major press minor US/world news items. Banshees Scream 110 Posted January 1, 2008 Godot if she croaks all major media sources will be talking about it but I doubt she will. Not only is she extremely active backing up her husband but in her Wikipedia it states that with the treatment of 'anti-estrogen' drugs her cancer can be kept under control. If she provides any value it will be in the long run.

If she provides any value it will be in the long run. And that's the other down side of listing her. Money talks and John Edwards has quite a bit of it in his own right I'm led to believe. So if anyone is going to get these new anti-cancer wonder drugs then its going to be her.
Poetry Man 2 Posted January 3, 2008 Well I am disappointed - I thought she was the daughter of Percy Edwards - the guy that used to do bird impressions.
chicago103 41 Posted January 3, 2008 The death of a potential first lady. Should John Edwards be elected president and Elizabeth dies it will be the first time since Woodrow Wilson became a widower that the US has had no incumbent first lady.
halleluyahjohntudor 5 Posted January 3, 2008 The death of a potential first lady. Should John Edwards be elected president and Elizabeth dies it will be the first time since Woodrow Wilson became a widower that the US has had no incumbent first lady. In that sad eventuality I'm sure that Hillary would find some way to fill the quasi-constitutional lacuna...

Octopus of Odstock 2,186 Posted January 30, 2008 Edwards out of the Presidental race I wonder if this will have 1) any effect on Elizabeth's health (in a positive way, probably) 2) any effect on her UK obit chances. A wife of a President, fine. A wife of a US senator that once campaigned for the election.. hmm.. maybe not. I suppose the election will be newsworthy enough this year, all in all for at least a passing mention?
maryportfuncity 10,637 Posted January 30, 2008 She'll get at least fleeting news coverage so she'd qualify for the current 'obit' rules on HPDP and DDP.

If he is just a former candidate then it will pass the test for the rest of this year but not beyond. On the other hand if John Edwards becomes Vice President of Attorney General she would remain noteworthy.
Youth in Asia 1,085 Posted January 30, 2008 First, why is she on DL's list. Second I think Edwards could have done a bit better than her looks-wise being a multi-billionaire ambulance chasing lawyer. Third I'm sure he's playing around anyway. Fourth she looks like his mother. Fifth, same as fourth. No, doesn't make sense to me either.
TAFKAG 70 Posted April 2, 2008 Mrs Edwards is perfectly well enough to have a go at McCain's health plan. She's this year's Roddy Piper - obscure North American with little chance of dying who's taking up a valuable DL spot.
TAFKAG 70 Posted May 22, 2008 Liz chats about Ted Kennedy, among other things. Medicine has come a long way, and I don't think that we ought to be writing anybody's obituary. We ought to be thinking about how it is he's going to live with cancer as opposed to how someone dies with cancer.

But, hang on, haven't we gone off topic?

Youth was absolutely spot on about the third point.
Canadian Paul 97 Posted May 21, 2009 In case there was any lingering doubt about removing her from the DL, she appeared on The Daily Show today looking as healthy as anyone without cancer. She claimed that she'd be able to create a universal health care plan that was better than Canada's without raising taxes and without having long waiting lines. Then she'll solve the energy crisis by distributing flying unicorns for us all to ride.

The American's probably would be able to afford a socialist healthcare system without raising taxes - all they'd have to do is half their bloody spending on defence! DevonDeathTrip 2,358 Posted April 15, 2010 Front page of the latest issue of the National Enquirer. From a DL point of view, great 3 for 1 value, with info (or possibly just unfounded gossip) on Pamela Anderson and Whitney Houston as well.
themaninblack 2,112 Posted April 15, 2010 Well the Enquirer have had it pretty spot on about John Edwards so that may well be true...
DevonDeathTrip 2,358 Posted June 30, 2010 Health update. She says that ...her cancer has gotten worse, with tumors in her legs, spine and skull... "It's less frightening than you think; it can't migrate to your brain" I wonder who told her that, because it just isn't true. As for how long she's got left... "She tells doctors just don't know how long she has to live, but she'd be happy with eight more years...." I bet her doctors have got a rough idea and I wouldn't have thought that it would be anywhere near as long as that.
