Magere Hein 1,400 Posted February 5, 2015 S'cuse the pedantry but...reading that commaless headline, I'm wondering why the lorry wanted to die. A friend of a friend of mine was a train driver who quit his job after several occasions in which the train he was driving killed a suicidal. As they say, he couldn't take it anymore and it affected his skills. I don't remember him mentioning becoming suicidal himself, but I can't imagine a lorry being cheered up by the prospect of a collision with a footballer. He may not have been its first. I understand the delight with which the rags report this unfortunate vehicle's plight, but they could be more considerate with its emotional condition. Why not bother the footballer who started all this? regards, Hein
msc 18,442 Posted February 5, 2015 Clarke Carlisle in hospital with life-threatening injuries, read between the lines and you'd know it's a suicide attempt. Confirmed. Ralf Little adds his two-penn'orth. The usual tact and empathy of The Sun was in full-force on the front page today, reading: "I leapt in front of a lorry hoping to die" S'cuse the pedantry but...reading that commaless headline, I'm wondering why the lorry wanted to die. It was worn out by the trudge and grind of the road rat race, clearly.

Bibliogryphon 9,579 Posted March 8, 2015 The premier league is now 22 years old (first full season was 1992/3) and there were 22 founding members of PL. None of the original managers are still in post and two have died Brian Clough (Notts Forest) and John Lyall (Ipswich) which leaves a nice round list of twenty: George Graham b.1944 (Arsenal) Ron Atkinson b.1939 (Aston Villa) Kenny Dalgleish b.1951 (Blackburn Rovers) David Webb b.1946 (Chelsea) Bobby Gould b.1946 (Coventry City) Steve Coppell b.1955 (Crystal Palace) Howard Kendall b.1946 (Everton) Howard Wilkinson b.1943 (Leeds United) Graham Souness b.1953 (Liverpool) Peter Reid b.1956 (Manchester City) Alex Fergusson b.1941 (Manchester United) Lennie Lawrence b.1947 (Middlesborough) Mike Walker b.1945 (Norwich City) Joe Royle b.1949 (Oldham Athletic) Gerry Francis b.1951 (QPR) Dave Bassett b.1944 (Sheffield United) Trevor Francis b.1954 (Sheffield Wednesday) Ian Branfoot b. 1947 (Southampton) Doug Livermore b.1947 (Tottenham Hotspur) Joe Kinnear b.1946 (Wimbledon) Ron Atkinson seems like the obvious choice but many of them are now turning 70.... Magere Hein 1,400 Posted March 10, 2015 The new survivors list reminded me of the interview Dutch broadcaster NOS did with 1991 survivor Leo Beenhakker last Sunday. It seems mr Beenhakker, 72 now, is fine, 24 years later:

I.R.Baboon 221 Posted March 25, 2015 The new survivors list reminded me of the interview Dutch broadcaster NOS did with 1991 survivor Leo Beenhakker last Sunday. It seems mr Beenhakker, 72 now, is fine, 24 years later: Just 2 weeks later, he steps down as the chairman of the Professional Soccer Trainer Interest Group (or something like that..) because he want to reduce his duties. He still has a board position at Sparta Rotterdam, though.
