I'm about 80% on him QO-ing: ridiculously, I think the fact he had a brief, unproductive spell at Barcelona is what will interest English-language sources more than his outstanding goal-scoring record in Brazil. Will make up for completely missing Bill Campbell during my research...

Turkmen footballer Omar Berdiyew has died aged 43.

The defender played his club football for numerous clubs in his homeland as well as clubs in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Ukraine and retired in 2010.

He played 37 games for the Turkmenistan national team, scoring once in an 11-0 win over Afghanistan in 2006 World Cup qualifying.

Was also part of the Turkmenistan squad that played at the AFC Asian Cup in 2004, they didn't make it out of their group but did finish above Saudi Arabia.

A non-Yahoo QO comes via The Sun and, yep, they led on his eight games, two goals for Barca rather than being the top goalscorer in Brazilian club history.

Rainer Ulrich was a German footballer who died at the age of 73 in 9/1, he played his whole career at Karlsruher and was coach of the team in 98/99, being the most recent coach to die, those from 99 to now are alive, he was the predecessor of Joachim Löw (former coach of the German national team) in the team. Ulrich also coached Bayern Munich

Raymond Mertens was a Belgian footballer who died on 9/1 at the age of 89. As a player he was a goalkeeper, but he stood out as an assistant coach as he was an assistant to the main Belgian teams (Anderlecht (under 23), Charleroi, Brugge, KV Kortrijk, Union Sint gillis

Alain da Costa was a Gabonese football coach who died at the age of 87, he was coach of the under 17 national team and also an assistant coach, in 96 he was the coach at the African Cup of Nations, being the 2nd member to die of that team. from 2014 to 2016, being the most recent coach to die, only 3 coaches took over the selection after him

Gaudenzio Bernasconi, the 7th most capped player for Sampdoria (365 games),3rd most played in Série A by the team (334 games) died at the age of 90. He played 6 games for the Italian national team, he also played for Atalanta.Between 55 and 59 he played 133 games in a row, without being expelled or suspended or injured, which is impressive for a defender

Kamel Tahir was an Algerian footballer who played as a goalkeeper for USM Alger, and JS Kabylie two traditional teams in his country, in addition to having defended his country's national team, he died on 11/1 at the age of 78
