Skydiver Luke Aikins is going to jump out of a plane from twenty thousand feet this weekend, without a parachute. He seems confident he'll land in the thoughtfully provided safety net without too much difficulty....

Who knew they made nets like 1/3 mile squared? Sir Creep had a 10% chance of hitting that thing for goodness sake. I thought he meant a proper Ringling Brother's net. He's a pussy.

There was a fairly spectacular accident a couple of years back at the Kent County Show when a poorly secured cannon fired a human cannonball at a Ringling Brothers style net and the recoil from the cannon knackered the whole thing, meaning the poor sod fell short and died.

 

That's more the way yer heading with yer own ideas of "entertainment" then SC. You might want to holiday in the Isle of Man arround TT time next year.

You're right MPFC didn't they lose three this year or was the carnage quelled at two?

Bit on radio about base jumpers.

 

In the last 12 weeks, 20 (twenty) have went 'splat', and a record year already.

 

Interview with a dame going on about what a good sport it is then the nice part...

 

" but you've lost your husband to it.....

Need to research these clowns a bit more I reckon.

 

 

 

***for the record, her view was as it is now more of a sport, the competitive edge makes folk take more risks.

A Navy SEAL skydiver and member of the group's "Leap Frogs" team died Sunday after his parachute failed to open during an aerial exhibition that was part of Fleet Week festivities in New York City.

The group was conducting a coordinated jump into Liberty State Park shortly after noon, Rear Adm. Jack Scorby said in a press conference. When the parachute didn't open, the skydiver cut himself loose so he would land in the water. When he splashed down, he was "retrieved immediately by US Coast Guard and the Jersey City Fire Department Marine Unit" and taken to a nearby hospital. He was pronounced dead at 1:10 p.m.

(His name wasn't released as family hadn't been notified when story went to press....I'll edit later).

A blue plaque has been unveiled (Dec 7, 2017) to celebrate Grimsby's Brenda Fisher's swimming achievements.

She was born in Scartho, and learned to swim using open water at Alexandra Dock before breaking the world record for swimming the English Channel in 1951.

It's now on display on the Fishing Heritage Centre.

So she's going strong, photo included, at age 90.  Looks like a 'pass' for 2018.  Good for you Ms. Fisher.

I don't understand why reporters keep getting this wrong.  The jump was perfectly executed.  It was the landing that was botched.

Former freeride star Carlin Dunne has passed away. Dunne, 36, was best known to mountain bikers from his standout segments in the New World Disorder film series.

Dunne transitioned to motorcycle racing and quickly found success. He was the first man under 10 minutes on the world renowned Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, and would win the event four times. He passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2019, after crashing near the finish line at Pikes Peak.

American free solo climber Brad Gobright has died attempting to descend the side of a cliff face.

He fell around 300 metres (1,000 feet) to his death in El Portero Chico in northern Mexico.

His fellow climber Aidan Jacobson, 26, fell a shorter distance and survived with injuries.
