Impressive that Norbert knew about this:

"In 2010 the Serpentine show Modern Moral Matters brought together his political works including Shock and Awe (2007-08)."

Now here's an interesting twist. I was passing the above picture - currently in its last few days of display at the Turner Contemporary in Margate - when I overheard a conversation being held by two arty types taking a great interest in it. Gerald Brockhurst, the artist, is long dead but the model was his young lover, their affair started when she was 15 and he 38 and the ensuing scandal cost him his marriage and obliged him to move to the US. One of those perusing the painting commented that as far as he knew she was still alive "in a nursing home somewhere." If that's the case then Kathleen Woodward aka Dorette is around 98. National obit chances negligable, possibility of her death being mentioned in the culture section of a broadsheet and qualifying for DDP points, quite high. I tried Googling and found one message board exchange in which someone claimed she died in the 90s and her death brought more of his works onto the market. But no confirmation of date and place of death anywhere. If she's in a nursing home that could also have prompted the works appearing at auction.

Leonard Rosoman who was, up until his death, the oldest living member of the Royal Academy, has died aged 98. More importantly, this sends me to the top of the DDP. I'm off to pop Cristal with a bunch of models who will find this fact arousing.

Thomas Kinkade

"Painter of light" who laid claim to being the US's most collected living artist, something which he won't be doing any longer as he has died aged 54.

God is merciful and said "Enough!"

I hadn't realised that the perpetrator of those nauseating abominations was still alive, much less that he was only in his 50s. His work is unspeakably hideous. A painter not so much of light but of a sinister radioactive glow.

Be afraid - be very afraid ...
