Sir Creep 7,070 Posted May 15, 2016 The paedophile who molested former Greens leader Bob Brown, has died in jail. Ian Douglas Davidson, 84, collapsed while getting on a truck to Long Bay prison hospital on Friday and died on Saturday. Davidson was charged and convicted of six counts of indecent assault against Mr Brown when he was in Year Six in Armidale in the late 1950s. ----- "Year Six" what kind of stilted horseshit language is that. Shame on any country, culture, or society (or educational system) with such uppity snooty fuckall. If they mean 6th Grade well goddamn SAY it. If you belong to said country culture or society (or educational system), hang yourself forthwith. Being attacked by paedophiles at that tender age is the LEAST of your problems. Being attacked by paedophiles at that tender age is the LEAST of your problems. I agree with you. We didn't have that terminology when I was at school. At secondary level we were first year or first form etc. But it was confined to school use. Outside of school, people used the kids' AGES to describe them. Nowadays I have no clue what age "Year Six" means.

So for example year six pupils will have their 11th birthday and year eight pupils will have their 13th. 1-2 Primary school. 3-6 Junior school. 7-13 Senior school. I still don't understand why people can't just say the ages. If you're talking about seven-year-olds, why not say that instead of translating into school talk. It's probably a parent thing where their whole lives seem to revolve around the school.
Dr_T 254 Posted May 16, 2016 I don't understand why this is causing such interest. I am a product of the Australian school system (Qld) and the terms Grade 1 and Year 1 were used interchangeably. Year 1 was the first year in school, Year 2 the second and so on and so forth. I think Grade 1, 2, 3 etc is being used more frequently now that there is a Prep Year in most states which represents the first year of mandatory education. In terms of Junior School, Senior School etc, I don't think there is much of a distinction in state (government) schools other than Primary (Prep to Grade 6) and High School (Grades 7-12). These will most often be distinct schools in different locations. Private Schools will draw different boundaries (my nephews go to a private school which offers Grades 5-12 for example). In these schools they often talk about Junior School, Middle School and Senior School, but from what I know the distinction only defines minor things like lunch areas and assembly times etc.
