Not enough to kill him, and apparently he was able to speak on the phone, so must have not been that serious.

Italian news site reporting the death of Aussie world champion motorcycle road racer Kel Carruthers (wiki) aged 86.

Outright denial from a family member here insisting he isn't even sick.

It's 2024. Nobody dies!

That's the most important Italian sports journal. The same author already announced dead in 2021 Tommy Robb, while he is still alive. Should be fired.

Bill Krause, one time Indy 500 attemptee, two-times winning mechanic of the Indy 500 (1981 and 1982) and an extremely able sportscar driver (winner of the 1958 and 1960 Riverside Grand Prix's, which attracted some of the best drivers at the time - Behra, Hill, Ginther etc.), died last week, due to complications of dementia and strokes.

I'm sure a legacy.com type obit will follow, not sure how much US motorsport media will pick this one up in truth. Just turned 91 at the start of the year.

Bit more about his racing here - http://www.tamsoldracecarsite.net/BillKrause.html

@Gisoooare you able to check Account to see where Krause's last address was?

There hasn't been a legacy obit due to 'family differences'.

I was told he was moved away from California.

First Formula 1 death of 2024 is not Fittipaldi, but former ATS and Merzario non-qualifier, and former Italian Formula 3 champion, Alberto Colombo, after a long illness, aged 78.

Now, Fittipaldi's death, and the way it came about, considering he survived one of the deadliest eras of the sport, only to choke on his birthday dinner, is sad, but he lived a decently long life.

Not so Joel Pearson, British Formula 4 driver, who haa died from cancer, aged just 19.

Does Fittipaldi count as an unnatural death?

Only started 4.

Dick Simon drove his car in 1971. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Mahler

Which was his rookie season (he qualified his CAR), which the article states correctly.  However, Wiki historical results agree with you that it was 4 and not 5 other races; so the article is incorrectly written and you win the day.

Jody Scheckter is selling his entire car collection. This comes as a surprise as he used to run them to promote his Laverstoke Park speed weekend and it was generally thought he'd hang onto them.

Could be nothing, could be just raising funds or it could be the racing driver version of selling their house :pop:

I'm inclined to believe it's financial reasons, but the health record in the Scheckter family is not ideal. Jody's daughter Ila died of an overdose years back and prior to that suffered a brain tumor that lead to seizures, his son Tomas suffered strokes and has had heart surgery. I'm also wondering if his brother Ian is well, haven't seen a public appearance from him since an interview in 2021 and to my knowledge he was quite active in the South African automotive scene till then.

Ian's fine. Last spoke to him last summer. Playing a lot of golf currently.

Scheckter is not just selling the cars, he's also selling the buffalo herd at Laverstoke, with the meat and dairy products no longer available.

This all seems quite drastic unless he's in some severe financial trouble, in serious ill health, or more boringly, wants to sell up and relax in his dotage and enjoy different things.

Scheckter is an old man now, 75 I think, probably just wants the quiet life and enjoying his final few years rather than spending 12 hrs+ a day running a successful business etc, don’t blame him
