Giovanni Allevi denies rumours on his death, but has been in hospital for more than a year.

Giovanni Allevi appears at Sanremo festival after "recovering" from multiple myeloma.

IMHO you never recover from multiple myeloma, but it seems he is doing very well at the moment.

If he's still alive in 2024, Seiji Ozawa should be in the deathlist !

Should and would.

Seiji Ozawa reportedly swung his last baton:

Awaiting the usual.

Sad, huge name.

This actually might be the one year I haven't picked him in anything. But then, he had cancer twice years ago already.

The great Leif Segerstam says he has been wheelchairbound since a bad bout of covid last year:

https://www.is.fi/viihde/art-2000010267597.html

Segerstam says that music is his nourishment.

Otherwise, not much happens during the day, everyday life mostly consists of watching TV. In the interview, Segerstam was asked what he does.

- I breathe and sleep and eat and piss and shit. And if I take SPAM, then something else, Segerstam tells HS.

Edit: Spam meaning the sexual dysfunction medicine. He was one of the three Finnish maestros I mentioned almost three years ago - the others, Kaj Chydenius and Jorma Panula are still alive too. Panula is still working at 93, Chydenius has unfortunately been very quiet in recent years and if he died tomorrow it would not suprise me at all.

Conductor Christoph von Dohnanyi shows up in good health at a concert:

https://slippedisc.com/2024/04/a-rare-concert-sighting-of-christoph-von-dohnanyi/

He's 94 years old now and must have recovered well from that health crisis a couple of years ago - also mentioned in the article.

Michael Tilson Thomas seems to have entered a stage where tumour reduced mental capacity has him thinking 2000 folks are just watching his rehearsal…. Such a shame. I wonder if tomorrow’s repeat might be his last concert?

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/lsotilson-thomas-frail-conductor-rallies-for-glorious-mahler-5d2hj53rk

for those locked out: he shut the score half an hour from the end of the symphony and either thanked the audience, got quite emotionally confused until his husband came, or needed the orchestra and soloist to point out there was a whole movement left. (depending on who you believe). Either way very sad.
