Andrew Urdiales, 54, was sentenced to death on Oct. 5 and had been on death row at the prison on the San Francisco Bay for less than a month. Correctional officers found him unresponsive in his cell about 11:15 p.m. Friday during a security check. Correctional officers unsuccessfully performed CPR on Urdiales, who was alone in his cell in the prison’s Adjustment Center, a housing unit for problem prisoners. The Utah Department of Corrections says 63-year-old Floyd Maestas died of natural causes Sunday at the prison in Draper. Maestas had been behind bars since 2008. He was convicted of aggravated murder in beating death of 72-year-old Donna Bott. Natural causes, so points could have been had. A rare but shining example. I have a hunch that she died this year, considering the case wasn't dismissed until the 10th. Kit Carson died in a car crash on the 7th and his case was dismissed the next day.
