Bert Trautmann 58 Posted January 1, 2011 Here's my attempt: 1. Neil Young (former footballer) 2. Hitchens 3. Biggs 4. Megrahi 5. Thatcher 6. Sharon 7. Falk 8. Geoffrey Hughes 9. Zsa Zsa 10. Hazel Hawke 11. John Higgins snr. 12. Vasily Aleksanyan 13. José Alencar 14. Yao Defen 15. Tanya Jones 16. Steve Prescott 17. Hawking 18. Aretha Franklin 19. Donald Neilson 20. Clive Derby-Lewis Was hoping Tanya Jones and Neil Young would somehow be unique picks, there's still a chance with Tanya but Neil has gone!
Octopus of Odstock 2,197 Posted January 1, 2011 18. Audrey TotterDokes, Tovey, and Totter were all my attempts at uniques.... we'll see. Good pick Totter. She was in the top 40 for me, but she missed out solely on the fact I already had two 90+ illness ravaged picks. I fully suspect that, if it is a UP, to be a successful well-chosen one. time 8,603 Posted January 1, 2011 As some are declaring their attempts at uniques, I will too: Sir Eldon Wylie Griffiths Asil Nadir Gerald Harper Dudley Simpson Emile Ford Mansoor Ali Khan Nosher Powell Francis Matthews I reckon my best chances are with Griffiths, Khan and Powell, but as the man said, we'll see. DevonDeathTrip 2,358 Posted January 1, 2011 Here's my team. I don't care where I finish this time, I'm more concerned that everyone was still alive when the starting gun went off. Having effectively started with a team of 17 last year, I never really stood a chance. My former joker Hakimullah Mehsud's Lazurus like reappearance was the icing on the cake, so he's sacked. 1) Dr Ann McPherson - Joker 2) Abdelbaset Al-megrahi 3) Archbishop Faustino Sainz Muñoz 4) Norman Spinrad 5) Tom Lubbock 6) Sara Douglass 7) Colette Adams 8) Charlie Louvin 9) Danny Fiszman 10) John Higgins Snr 11) Mick Karn 12) Jim Stynes 13) Brian Haw 14) Christopher Hitchens 15) Jose Alencar 16) Diana Wynne Jones 17) Brian O'Connor 18) Aretha Franklin 19) Elvis Gordon 20) Nat Lofthouse Sub: Chris Woodhead
Octopus of Odstock 2,197 Posted January 1, 2011 It should be safe now; The UP attempts are: Chukuwemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, Mike Porcaro, Jock Hobbs, Adolfo Suarez and Shashi Kapoor. However I will be very surprised if any of these actually end up being UP's because ironically the year after winning it, I've scrapped the "interesting" and gone for "Ill". Theme Team: (Having missed, Neil Young, dammit) Lofthouse, Broadbent, L Phillips, Swan, Cox, di Stefano, J Hall, J Neal, D Ellis, Wilby, Turnbull, Borgonovo, C Clarke, P Taylor, Balcazar, Foulkes, Havelange, Flohe, Ablett and Populhar Referee: TheManInBlack Att:

Martin White (hurler) 18. Stephen Hawking 19. Ronald H. Coase 20. Yitzhak Shamir I didn't have much time to do research this year, and I refused to pick Alex Stobbs, so I don't really see a Top 10 finish in my future this time... but anything's possible! maryportfuncity 10,646 Posted January 1, 2011 If I've got any chance of a unique pick it's Lianne Smith or Lee Kerslake, kicking myself (heh heh) for missing Neil Young, and also wondering if Gerry Rafferty should've made the final list. But in the end it came down to... Carkers Convention 2011: Tom Lubbock – terminally ill journalist (JOKER) Lianne Smith – Infanticidal and suicidal Frankie Buckles Christopher Hitchins Dick Cheney Nat Lofthouse Claude Choules Eunice Sanborn – World’s oldest Geoffrey Hughes Steve Prescott Margaret Fish – UK’s oldest Penny Marshall Lee Kerslake – Drummer, Uriah Heep Bert Trautmann Dennis Frederiksen Robert Edwards Michael Douglas Harlan Ellison Zsa Zsa Gabor Aretha Franklin Subs bench Billy Graham
themaninblack 2,112 Posted January 2, 2011 Hello everyone. I've got a daunting amount of entries to load in over the next week as I didn't get enough time to really work on it during the Christmas period. Hopefully my team this year will improve on a poor 116th place: Christopher Hitchens (Joker) Stefano Borgonovo Michael Douglas Ariel Sharon Kim Jong-Il Paul Virilio (French thinker) Zohra Segal (Indian actress) Judith Kerr (Mog author/ widow of Nigel Kneale) Reginald Turnill (BBC Space age reporter) Geoff Strong (Liverpool player, now has Alzheimer's) James Prior David Bailey (I thought he looked worse than Brian Duffy in that documentary last year..) Mick Karn Dick Cheney Boris Spassky Harlan Ellison Robert Mugabe Margaret Thatcher Donald Neilson Anthony Armstrong-Jones Good luck everyone

Estuarian Float 97 Posted January 2, 2011 man in black, I was to late to submit a team this year. So could you take me of the mailing list? Also, if I could discreetly slip this in your question queue... because Im sure youre very busy and I dont want to bother you MiB, but I didnt get a confirmation for my main team. I got one for my theme team, so I guess its alright? I just wanna be sure.

Tomb raider 9 Posted January 3, 2011 It had been very hectic at work lately, so I completely forgot my entry for the DDP 2011. Would you believe it!? The bright side is that with every celeb's death I can easily claim that I would have picked him/her for the DDP, so I firmly expect myself to (virtually) have won the contest by the end of the year. Godot 149 Posted January 3, 2011 One should never pander to the urgings of individual entrants but I was just kind of curious if anyone else had Pete Postlethwaite in their teams and, if not, that being the case, whether the team with Postlethwaite in it might have grabbed an early lead in this year's contest which it doesn't plan to relinquish anytime soon? Perhaps just a small gloat could be permitted by some confirmation, hey TMIB, your poolership, if you can look up from your endeavours for just a nanosecond? I had him as my joker until I reinstated Al Megrahi at the last minute and then gave it to the younger man which, on reflection, wouldn't have earned more points if PP turns out to be a unique pick. I had him as my joker until I reinstated Al Megrahi at the last minute and then gave it to the younger man which, on reflection, wouldn't have earned more points if PP turns out to be a unique pick. Well, from what I've been looking at so far, it could be that Mr Postlethwaite may be a unique pick, but I can't confirm yet as I still have over 300 teams to process. Gmail is a git an' all. It seems to tag loads of seemingly unconnected emails together, so I have to pick through each of them to see each individual email within... Since you are one of the contenders, you could emulate what a couple of winners have done in the past, first hit then win the thing!
