They are smart to know that if they try using a letter to prove he is alive that everyone will start to think he is dead, but that is exactly what they want. He is favoring his left leg, keeping the knee stiff as he swings it through, causing him to hike up his pelvis on that side to allow his foot to clear the ground. If I had to put money on it, I would say a moderate knee injury, or perhaps even a minor surgery, like for a meniscal tear or something like that. But I would need pretty good odds.
