Michael Hennessy, character actor who appeared in various uncredited roles in films from Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix to Skyfall, is being reported dead by his nephew. Apparently he was also the guy who came up with "Don't Just Book It, Thomas Cook It!"

But he didn't come up with 'Don't Just Book It, Thomas Fucking Cook It'. That was A Naughty-Schoolboy, circa 1975.

Birthday posts are quite insightful and useful for us keeping track of possibilities for the future, though I agree they should maybe go in a separate place. The Not Dead Thread created the other day is a good idea and maybe other users can agree to keeping these posts there?

There's also no need for the enormous Twitter posts, especially multiple ones.

Yep especially as they're a bugger to read on phones etc.

Sorry but no I think you are being silly. I never try to tell other posters were to post and what.

I have also made my views and feelings known before on this so there will not be any increased success in chastising  me frequently for what amounts to a difference of preference of no major consequence.

Look, I'm not the only one who gets pissed off with this.  When there's a new post in a thread we expect there to be some relevant news, maybe even a death.   Then we find it's just more of your massive copy/paste jobs from Twitter.

Start a separate catch-all Happy Birthday thread, then you can stick them all in there without setting off all these false alarms.

I have given you my answer. Quite a few people give the posts likes so your opinion is obviously  not universally shared.

Perhaps you need to consider whether it is really worth expending energy on getting pissed off?

In any thread you never know if it's going to be a post with news of a death, health decline or chit chat and banter. That creates an element of anticipation and as any tart worthy of the name will tell you anticipation is half the thrill!:D

I couldn't be clearer that I think you are making a mountain out of a molehill and that there is no point in other posters telling me what to do as I dont dance or jump to other peoples tunes like that. You have stated your opinion and I have stated mine.

I have never received warnings on here for my behaviour and I have never abused other posters. I simply have a different point of view to you and whoever else on this point.

No, you haven't.  I suggested a dedicated thread for birthdays, and you have not responded to that.  It seems like a logical and tidy place for recognising birthdays, so what is your objection to it?

I have given you my answer. I simply do not agree with and do not think it warrants a  high level of fuss.Especially as it is something I do intermittently and not Daily and often not weekly. Infact there have been times were I have not done it for a month. You are presenting a solution to me because you see a problem. I don't see a problem so therefore do not see a need for a solution. I also think it is sensible and fine for me to acknowledge Jane Fonda Birthday in the Jane Fonda thread, Raquel Welchs Birthday in the Raquel Welch thread. Many of my Birthday posts are not in genre threads but threads dedicated to that particular person.

I do not object to a Birthday thread but nor do I especially see the point in one  so if someone sets one up I am not going to commit to keeping all my Birthday posts in it. I always assume when a thread has a new post that it either a health or welfare change, some general news on a specific person, their death or their Birthday. It doesn't bother me in the slightest what it turns out to be when I click on the thread and I can't understand why it bothers anyone else. There are lots of posts on this forum that are not my cup of tea but I just accept each to their own.

There is no offence or breach in anything I post especially with regards to birthdays like I said I have never been given a warning.

This is simply a question of learning to live and let live and a difference of opinion or preference on a rather trivial and small aspect of forum activity.

I'm afraid we are not going to agree .

I think you are an excellent and extremely likeable poster but I simply do not agree with you.:)

tbh I think a general Birthday thread would be of use too.

Part of my reasoning being that a lot of the instagram birthday posts don't really load well on my phone, and some of us don't have other options to read the forum off of. The other part being I'm a moody bugger. :D

So putting aside that this conversation doesn't belong in this thread either, does anyone actually read the thread titles before they get to the post anyway? I start at the first new post  and then just keep scrolling through to the next unread topic. There are a few threads I don't care for, but it's more of a hassle to try to avoid them, so i just quickly move on. It would make no difference if it were a happy birthday thread or a happy birthday post in a dedicated thread. I wouldn't mind a feature like " block thread" like we have for "block user", but I don't see a big deal either way.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with posting 'Happy Birthday' messages in a relevant thread (be it a named thread or a general thread such as this), however there seems no justifiable reason to post huge copy/pastes from instagram. It's either laziness or done with the intention of pissing people off.

If you want to post a picture, fair enough, but post one of a reasonable size (huge pictures found on't interwebs can be reduced in size pretty easily100)

For some reason this forum allows you to edit the forum posts using html so you don't need to reduce the size off site (as it appears you've done, which is annoying as it doesn't open the original when you try to find the image by opening it in a new tab) you can do it here (please don't disable this admins, it's incredibly useful).....

Take this both are the same original image copied into this post - as you'll see if you open them in a new tab - I just dumped the second one to 150px for space saving, whereas the first is default 300px of the original image...

See the source image See the source image

Just click source look for the <a href><img = > </a> tags and edit the width="000" tag  to be more in line with the size that's fair to scroll past. It takes two seconds....

I've been doing this for ages.  I often do it on the images in quoted posts too, as we don't need to see them more than once in full size.

While in the reply window, I just double-click on the image and this resizing form comes up.

I just change the width to whatever seems suitable.  Usefully, the "keep ratio" box is automatically ticked.  That's important to avoid distortion.

Is there a way to do this on an iPhone? I often resize when I’m on my laptop but haven’t sussed it on a phone yet.

I don't know, I've actually got one now but I rarely use it for forums and online stuff.  I can't be doing with a piddly little screen.
