David Bickerstaff has tweeted the news that Philip Voss has died aged 84. Lousy news if so, fine actor: Four Weddings and a Funeral, Octopussy, and more recently in the sitcom Vicious where he was one of the good bits.

Another one of those cases where cancer gives a tap in for covid. Makes sense as he had been active till recently.

From Leicester. Wonder if @Cat O'Falk ever knew him?

Going through my longlist, you know the deal, lots of minor news on certain names...

...Brian Blessed gave an interview and revealed that his wife had cancer and COVID this year, but she survived both.

His wife his also an actress, Hildegard Neil: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hildegarde_Neil

Interview: https://www.dailystar.co.uk/showbiz/brian-blessed-praises-wife-after-22815633

Good news on Brian Blessed himself though; he “instinctively feels <he> will live to about 120 or 130”. Still got “heaps of work” at the age of 84, too. Absolute legend. I’ll Iain my eyes out when he does die.

Facebook post from his local church confirming the death of British character actor Basil Moss (wiki) aged 85. Known for his role of Alan Drew in the BBC series Compact. Also had a minor role in Bond film You Only Live Twice.

Gutted. Actually watched About a Boy the other day, which I was surprised to see her in.

Brilliant in Gimme Gimme Gimme, and the first regular cast member from that series to die.

A great shame. She was hilarious as Horrible Grandma in FND. Also remember her as Mrs Cresswell in the brilliant OFAH episode, ‘The Jolly Boys’ Outing’.

That's a shame. She was great in the early Carry On films and Gimme Gimme Gimme, always reliable. I was going to put her on my list for next year too.

As always, additions very welcome.

Does anyone know if it was definitely Fyfe’s son who made this claim on his father’s wiki page? There’s the chance that someone else could have claimed they were his son and the birth year. I cannot find any other 1930 claims for Fyfe.

Some living suggestions:

Donald Pelmear (1924) - Yes Minister, Poirot, Dr Who

Morris Perry (1925) - Crown Court, Hound of the Baskervilles

Oscar Quitak (1926) - A Very British Coup, Howards End (and shitloads tbh)

Lee Montague (1927) - Bergerac

June Flewett (1927) - Crown Court (also Clement Freud's widow)

Michael Craig (1928) - Triangle, Dr Who (more an old school film actor but done lots of TV and a great actor)

Sarah Lawson (1928) - 50s TV regular

Gerald Harper (1929) - Adam Adamant Lives (although Wiki now claims a birth of 1931? Either way he counts)

Clifford Rose (1929) - Pallisers, Secret Army

Damaris Hayman (1929) - Doctor Who

Maria Charles (1929) - Corrie, Never the Twain

Gary Watson (1930) - Z-cars

Una McLean (1930)  - Taggart, River City (and Russell Hunter's widow)

Trevor Peacock (1931) - Vicar of Dibley

June Bland (1931) - Doctor Who (x2), The Doctors, The Newcomers - retired to teach acting

James Greene (1931) - Chocky, Moon Stallion (still alive as was in Doctors and others in last few years)

Godfrey James (1931) - Emmerdale, Armchair Thriller (retired 20 years ago, *think* still alive)

Vivian Pickles (1931) - Uncle Jack, Elizabeth R

No way of being absolutely certain either way, but who takes their time to impersonate an obscure actor's son for the sake of changing their date of birth misleadingly? I believe it was his son.

We've visited this several times now so I don't want to get bogged down on it again but a search on Scotland's People for a birth within Clackmannan in either 1925 or 1930 turns up nada. Hopefully an obit will clarify how old he actually was.
