It has got to be fake. A lot of British TV attracts people who like to make their own custom “official” material based around it (YouTube is full of niche fake BBC One trailers and the like) and I can imagine this being someone’s extension of that.

@Gisooo, upon closer inspection, the Cyril Appleton who died in Wigan in 2005 may not be the actor. I found the death record on Ancestry and the date of birth listed is completely different. 

The comment on Wikipedia says that Cyril Appleton was alive and living in London as of 2016. I see from the residency records that there is a Cyril A Appleton living in that area. 

Cyril Appleton is a pretty uncommon name but there were two born in 1930 (and both in Lancashire coincidentally!):

Is it possible that the first one is the actor? Likely so. If his DOB of 31 May 1930 is believed to be correct, then a June 1930 registration would make more sense.

Remarkable how much better the cast of One Foot in the Grave has fared for longevity compared to say The Vicar of Dibley which started later and had a similar aged main cast.
