Finland's by far most notable auctioneer, "auction emperor" Aki Palsanmäki has been diagnosed with lung cancer and will undergo emergency surgery today.

I visited his auction house in Hirvaskangas six or seven years ago. It was raining and there were probably around two hundred people there, I was standing in the rain trying to get a glimpse of the guy. Not the best way to spend a holiday, but all the best to him.

Theo Burrell news from today's Instagram post:

Quote

Results are in and regrowth has been confirmed. It's been a tough few months and it's not the news we wanted but at least answers have been given. I'll be starting back on chemo (Temozolomide) in the next couple of weeks.

So it's onwards and forwards (upwards is maybe a little too cheery for me right now!) I go. Thank you in advance to everyone for your kindness and support

Michael Baggott was last picked in 2015 under the name Michael Baggot: https://www.derbydeadpool.co.uk/deadpool2015/celebs_B.html#baggom

I am going to ask if he's a pick this year?

January nearly out, time for the DDP to be up and running, even in beta, ha!

According to a December 2024 article by The Sun he was 65. Didn’t think he was that old but there you go.

I don't trust it. The childhood photo of him and his older sister looks more 1970s.

Not picked this year.

The site is nearly ready for launch; no-one said I had to be an Access* guru when I volunteered on the strength of my knowledge of Excel!

We love you @time, @Death Impends and @Banana and all your helpers.

It isn't for me, you understand, it's for all the teams that picked the fourth most famous Ayatollah in Iran, or summat. ;)

Whoever did their research in 2015 suggested a birth date in 1973, wherever that came from.

No matter, List of the Missed (which is amazing given the warning we had from @time).

Decided to double check A couple tweets from 2020 mention that his dad was 72 at the time and there's a Michael Baggott born in Birmingham (where he claims to have grown up) in 1973, whose father (through cross-checking) was born in early 1948 - so everything aligns with him being 51 when he died.

The Sun’s obit is still saying 65 - if he was only 51 how long till it is corrected.

And yet everywhere still reports him aged 65, including the BBC.

If only there was a way of determining the age of something. All celebrity auctioneers should be hallmarked. Problem solved!

Geesh just as well he’s not a DDP pick. Everywhere reporting him as 65. I believe the research above is correct though – he was 51.

Are we all done at 51? You in the bowler hat, sir? No? Going once… going twice… mould at 51 to multiple Deathlist bidders!

Now on to lot 49, Jeanne Calment. Who’ll start me at 122? Come come now…

Don't. You'll trigger the French users. She's their femme de fraud, their belle de bullshit.

Someone from The Telegraph clearly reads DL Forums.

Full obit for Baggott.

"Michael Baggott, who has died after a heart attack aged 51, was an authority on antique silver and one of the most recognisable of the team of experts on the BBC daytime antiques show Flog It!."

"
Michael Baggott, born April 18 1973, died January 26 2025"

Well, he was a bit of a unit, wasn't he. It would have took you a day to walk around the man.

All the more reason to question the 'committee' as to why the fuck an absolute cert for an early death wasn't on this years list.

Anyway, saw him on TV a few times, seemed like a really nice fella.

Sad.
