I can’t be alone in thinking that anyone who defects to another party should face an immediate by-election. That includes cunts like Matt Hancock who get thrown out of theirs and sit as “independents”.

I could easily see could easily be abused when parties descend into factional fighting. Both Jeremy Corbyn and Diane Abbott were suspended by the Labour party. However switching party affiliation should be added to the list of things that could trigger a recall petition

That through would mean legally party membership becomes part of the electoral system in a more directway. At the moment MP’s are legally elected as individuals. 
 

And parties Would love to be able to force MP’s they don’t want into by elections if they have nice safe seats.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the Atlantic, Matt Gaetz's wet dream of deposing Kevin McCarthy is going splendidly, with his hand-picked replacement (Steve Scalise) dropping out without a vote and their right-wing poster boy Jim Jordan now failing to get more than 200 votes after 2 rounds of balloting (he needs 217 to take the Speakership). In both rounds, the Democrat challenger has received a greater number of votes - he only needs 5 to take the role (but will never get them). Jordan says he will fight on, but looking increasingly likely that expanding the powers of the Speaker Pro Tempore (the interim speaker, who has no power at all currently) is the most probable course of action, if only so they can send Israel some money to bomb Palestinians (although, seriously, there is a lot that needs doing, and the shutdown deadline is getting closer again).
