Why the hell would anyone have had an 81-year old Garry Marshall (unless a theme team)??? Dude wasn't even sick, died of pneumonia and therefore wasn't sick on Jan 1. It sure as hell had Better been a theme team or a close relative of Marshall's, only those two situations don't demand further explanation.

SC

Theme team of Garys, Sir C.

I'm waiting for Sir C to respond "You can't have Garry Marshall on a theme team of Garys because he spells his name with two R's".

People can choose anyone they want to (subject to rules) for their DDP team, for whatever reasons they like.

No one has to explain their choices to you or to anyone else.

School Bus reminded me of Play Days, which reminds me of Play School, which reminds me of Brian Cant. I wonder what he's up to now. *adds to longlist to annoy no one in particular*

Obscure but will pull an obit is exactly the type of person that should be picked for DDP. Rack in those unique points.

On that note has anyone ever managed to pull 20 unique picks on a team?

I think so yes, I once looked for it, since I also like to hunt for uniques.

Coincidentally, I wondered earlier today whether it is possible to field a Theme Team with the Theme "people I think will be unique hits". And then I'd like not to score for them, if they aren't unique.

I used to spend ages looking for uniques. In 2013, I wound up with 25% uniques in the Pan Breed team, and all of them lived. Meanwhile, Bernie Nolan got missed.

Now, I'm quite content in the knowledge that if I find someone I think might be unique, their name is almost surely in one of Spade/DI/DDT's shortlists/visions. This is my first DDP team with no uniques, and also my most successful. (I wonder if Sandy McDonald might have been if I'd not mentioned him on this forum. Doubtful!) As a certain Sir of this parish once said, its better to focus on deadable people.*

The Honourable Member for DDP North and The Gallifreyan Regeneration Game make up for this with 19 unique picks between them.

*I will naturally change my opinion in the unlikely outcome that Luke Halpin costs me the DDP!

I swear I once saw, a few years ago, a theme team of South Koreans that was entirely unique named "Seoul Takers".

So The Browns were a trio? I thought they had as many members as The Nolans. Certainly putting Maxine on my shortlist for 2017 now on this pattern!

I think William Lucas is my first ever successful unique pick.

Congratulations to Spade for the breaking the all-time record of hits in a year: 16...

Incredible feat.

Does this mean Spade has to shake his own hand (read: "click like on own post")?

Who broke the 120 point margin first this year? People are on for the 150 point margin now.

Still thing this is the year The Living End break my streak though. Lucas and Caslavska > Granger and Kincaid. We've both got Christie, Delpech ain't getting his obit, my only hopes rest on either Halpin going downhill rapidly or Kincaid dying on the 13th. Or a Party Pooper bonus being installed for passing on your wedding anniversary.

Thing is that we're at the point where the top 2 have just a handful of potential hits and we can speculate on what the possibilities are for an outright win. Rather like election night when the politicos work out what swing is needed and what seats can be won to get an overall majority.

So without further ado...

David Quanticks' Showbiz Pals: Hits 16, Points 145

Mother Angelica
René Angélil
Hassan Asif (J)
G. Monty Brinson
Errol Christie
Martin Crowe
Michel Delpech*
Jenny Diski
Abdul Sattar Edhi
Bob Ellis
Péter Esterházy
Joey Feek
Thomas Fekete
Kate Granger
Dan Haggerty
Luke Halpin (UP)
Pat Harrington Jr
Rowena Kincaid
Howard Marks
Kris Travis

*Making a big assumption here that Delpech will not get his obit, which leaves just three potential hits left for the champion.

Halpin (69)

Christie (53)

Kincaid (40)

Barring any 13th or Birthday/Xmas bonuses, the most DQSP can get is 175pts.

No change: 145
+ Halpin only: 156

+Christie only: 154

+ Kincaid only: 155

+ Halpin/Christie: 165

+Halpin/Kincaid: 166

+Christie/Kincaid: 164

The Living End: Hits 15, points 141

Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi
René Angélil
Bonnie Brown
Vera Cáslavská
Errol Christie

Martin Crowe
Peter Maxwell Davies
Jenny Diski
Péter Esterházy
Joey Feek (J)
Thomas Fekete
Rob Ford
Phil Gartside
Gary Haggarty
Aden Hailu (UP)
Eric Lubbock
M@ry Luc@5
Ronald Mulkearns
Louise Plowright
Kris Travis

Has a couple more hits to play with:

Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi (45)

Vera Cáslavská (74)

Errol Christie (53)

Gary Haggarty (45)

M@ry Luc@5 (53)

The most TLE can get barring bonuses is 186

I'm not going to go through all the implications, however should DQSP fail to get another hit (or they both get Errol Christie, the top 2's only shared pick remaining), any other hit will bring TLE the title as there's only a 4 point gap. To definitely win, TLE needs 25 points, which can be achieved with the Cáslavská/Christie/Luc@5 combination, but that would be 18 hits for the year! Big ask...

Of the rest, Heading Nowhere has the best chance. A combination of "the Saint" and Vera could win the title by one point...

Can't honestly see Lucas obitting, which would serve me right. I'm more confident of al-Baghdadi finding the back of the net

I am fairly content with my performance, regardless of where I finish. Although signing Gary Haggarty up to my dream team wasn't my cleverest idea.

It would be quite ironic if everybody on my team died, apart from the two terrorists.

9 potential hits for me left. Still in the game, but also going to need almost everybody from my list to die.

As of today I got 100 points

+ Adamowicz ... 107 (as of 31.08)

+ Kohl ... 113 (as of 18.09)

+ James ... 120 (as of (02.10)

+ Gabor ... 125 (as of 01.11)

+ Carter ... 130 (as of 24.12)

+ van der Westhuizen ... 140 (as of 25.12)

+ Romero ... 149 (as of 31.12)

That might secure my win... and keeping Farnham and Fawkes in my pocket.

And we have the biggest f*cking surprise in the history of DDP!

With the current ratio of deaths, I was thinking about how I had to sub out Howard Davies Jr and Darren Tandy in the last week of 2015 due to them being a bit too eager to go. Can't have been the only person in that boat, I wonder how their subs did. Mine were Phil Gartside and Kate Granger, and Monty Brinson would have been the third had anyone else snuffed it before the bells.

I think it was DDT? I know he was the first to break the previous points record, at least. Which would mean that this year, both the points and hits records were first broken by the ones who set the previous record!

For me it was:

Howard Davies Jr - Helen Fawkes

Pavel Srnicek - Zsa Zsa Gabor

Firstly, congrats to DQSP for breaking the record number of hits. For me personally, Granger brings me up to 116. My remaining survivors:

Tony Booth

Jimmy Carter

Marian Cisovsky

Keith Farnham

Valerie Harper

Gino Odjick

Fernando Ricksen

Geofferey Robinson

Joost van der Westhuizen

I think I'll very likely get Booth and Harper, and probably Robinson (assuming he obits), bringing me up to 136. Cisovsky and Ricksen seem too early, but if one of them snuffs it prematurely, that'll rake up another 10 or 13 points. Westhuizen might also be a possibility, which would bring me up to 156. But I'll then need another lucky hit to have a serious chance at winning, because Christie and Kincaid seem to be sure goners this year. So I'm not really expecting to win, but only time will tell.
