I've never even heard of Margot Honecker, until now.

-------

And now for something completely different:

Former Oklahoma Gov. David Hall, who was indicted shortly after leaving office but maintained a love for the state and its people, died Friday in California. His daughter, Julie Martin, confirmed that he died in a San Diego area hospital at 8:39 a.m. after suffering a stroke.

Dennis Hastert, who is now sort-of convicted of molesting boys, is in declining health and "suffered a catastrophic illness":

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-hastert-prison-20160427-story.html

I think I wrote about him in the Suicidal celebs thread before, and he had a stroke a couple of months ago. But I'm too shy to create a thread for him.

He HAS a thread, it's called Political Frailty. Every ho-hum person doesn't deserve a thread. You've done well gcreptile. That said, at least Hestert is ill and dying inside of two years....so somewhat thread worthy. Unlike Bono who maybe had to take aspirin for a headache once or summat.

Longtime U.S. Rep. John J. Duncan Jr. says he's been diagnosed with prostate cancer. Duncan told the Knoxville News Sentinel (http://bit.ly/203FGe4) that the cancer was found six or seven months ago during a routine exam. He said doctors have decided no treatment is necessary at this stage after tests showed the cancer is isolated.

BUT WAIT!.....

Duncan said he took the diagnosis seriously because his father died of prostate cancer in 1988. Former U.S. Rep. John J. Duncan Sr. was 69 at the time of his death, a year older than his son is now.

Philippine lung cancer sufferer Miriam Defensor Santiago now on medical leave:

http://www.sunstar.com.ph/manila/local-news/2016/05/24/santiago-end-senate-term-and-extend-medical-leave-475413

I had her short listed for 2015 but she seemed to recover nicely and even wrote a book and toured promoting it; so I ain't buying she's nearing deaths door quite yet. But one never knows. She is definitely back on radar for 2017 though

Gianluca Buonanno, Italian politician of Lega Nord, died at 50 in a car accident. Really shocking, considering how he was famous in Italy thanks to his exaggerated sentences about guns, immigrants, etc.. He seemed to be not so intelligent, ugly as hell and was not even a Northern Italian but a half blooded Southern one from Apulia, but his mediocrity could make everyone feel better when he was seen on TV (almost every hour). I'm really shocked for the first time (maybe the second after Angus Scrimm), we lost a mediocre politician, but a common man, someone who is like you, someone who shows you that even not special at all people can reach fame.

Sorry, I know you don't know him, but today I've seen the death of the common, barely literate, trash talking man, who still could bring you happiness. Rest In Peace, Everyman.

Forgive the disconnetcted outburst, but I'm to shaken too write normal things.

Interesting to note those old British politicians who have been silent during the referendum campaign.Cant find anything recently on:

Douglas Hurd

Lord Carrington

Jim Prior

Bill Rodgers

Roy Hattersley

David Waddington

Patrick Jenkin

All well in their 80s and 90s so could easily be too frail to campaign or appear on tv.Or maybe they are just fed up with politics and want to enjoy their retirement.Very surprised on the lack of comments from Hurd and Carrington though as they have still appeared in public within the last year or so.

Jim Priors been on leave of absence from the Lords since 2010, and looked hideous when last really active. I'm convinced he's quite ill, but have never gotten confirmation on that. (Though one Tory journo did go "oh is he still alive?" but that might have been your usual "oh I didn't know Henry Heimlich was still alive" type reaction!)

Elsewhere, Patrick Jenkin basically said he was sodding off from politics when he retired from the Lords. It could have had underlying health issues, but he seemed fairly sincere, and besides, I think if it was retirement due to serious illness, he'd probably be dead by now.

Bill Rodgers gave an interview to The New Statesman in January, his health wasn't mentioned.

Anyone else reckon a few big political figures will go on the 25th, there's evidence to suggest deaths increase after major events and we know that some people will hold on in the face of death for reasons dear to them such as a christmas, a childs weddings, an anniversary or election/referendum result
