He was 89. Iowa Democratic Rep. John Forbes, Cochran's son-in-law, said Cochran had been in hospice care for several weeks and died of heart failure. Cochran, a Democrat, was elected to the Iowa House in 1964 and represented the Fort Dodge area. He served as Iowa Speaker of the House between 1975-79.
