In 2008, Georgia led a small war to re-conquer Abkhazia and hoped that NATO would come to its aid. But they didn't because they didn't want to face Putin over this. The whole action was a bit kamikaze from then-president Saakashvili.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russo-Georgian_War

Saakashvili has since become a supporter of the 2014 Ukrainian revolution, became governor of Odessa, overthrown, charged with war crimes and sent to Holland, only to get political asylum.

Pretty sure there's a film in his life story...

It's like it used to be in the 60s and 70s. Some politicians are paid by the Russians, and some, like Saakashvili, are paid by the Americans. Only difference is that these games now mostly take place within the borders of the Soviet Union.

... although maybe Russia is having a bit of a counter-offensive with its support of European populist parties, and maybe even of the American president himself.

And the President of the Donetsk Republic murdered in a bomb attack the other week. A cynic may note all three territories with separatist movements and Russian involvement.

The former President of South Korea Chun Doo Hwan has reportedly died at 87 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chun_Doo-hwan

no proper link as yet though

Chun is a huge name in the history of South Korea. He was SK's Kim Il-sung, a cruel dictator who ruled 9 years with fake elections. Now suffering from Alzheimer's disease, but this is fake as hell.

Nah, Tiwari is on my DDP Shortlist.

For 2040, naturally.

Former state Sen. Chris Buttars, a lightning rod for controversy who adamantly opposed gay rights and championed drug offender treatment programs, died Monday at age 76.

Buttars, a Republican from West Jordan, served in the Utah Senate for 10 years before abruptly retiring at the end of the 2011 legislative session. A lifelong diabetic, he cited his poor health and that of his wife, Helen, for stepping down.

Couple months old, but an update nonetheless on a recovering Mayor Doug Lachance of Rochester, NH (appeared on about 4 Cup entries).  Looks like he's doing regular activities, many pounds lighter, mind.

You might say his Lachance is good to still be around when Advent Avalanche begins

Update on Tiwari: still critical and shows absolutely no improvement. Article compares him To Vajpayee and we know how that ended...

Tiwari continues to be critical . On September the 20th he will celebrate a year of hospitalization.

His son said (a month ago mind) 'organ failure' so I guess it depends what organ(s) and what degree of failure and whether procedures can be successful enough on said organ(s) with said amount of failure in order to keep him salient.  Clearly a matter of time, but just when is anyone's guess given the unknowns.

Former Rabbit Hash (Ohio) Mayor Lucy Lou has died.

The red and white border collie who served in office from 2008 to 2016 died Sept. 10. She was 12.

Oh, god! She was the only Rabbit Hash mayor who reached retirement. Heartbreaking news.

Pretty big name in Michigan politics, though not Milliken or Conyers or Dingell, all of whom are DDP worthy.

Former Michigan Congressman Joe Knollenberg has died at the age of 84, a family member has confirmed to FOX 2.

The family member says Joe died from complications from Alzheimer's disease, and that he had been in a memory care facility in Troy for the last two and a half years.

Dingell will make it to 100.

Very unlikely.  Hospital with a heart attack.

It's a minor heart attack and he is in good conditions. He'll get an operation tomorrow, he will still live for years.

Contrarian for the sake of being contrarian.
I will abandon this site for the rest of my life if he is alive Jan 1 2020.  You must do the same if he dies before then.
